Objective: We encountered the case of a patient who presented with an avulsion of both flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) and flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) tendons from their respective insertion in the ring finger. We aim to discuss the novel treatment of this injury pattern in the context of all previously encountered cases in the literature.

Materials And Methods: We examined the case of our patient with avulsion of both flexor tendons in the same finger and discuss the novel method of treatment in our case.

Introduction: Engaging in regular physical activity (PA) is associated with lower mortality following stroke, and PA reduces the chance of recurrent stroke. Despite recent guidelines to optimise PA following stroke, people with stroke are known to be less active than their age-matched counterparts. An evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of rituximab in combination with chemotherapy for the first-line treatment of follicular non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in the UK.

Objectives: In this study, the cost-effectiveness of rituximab was evaluated in comparison with commonly used chemotherapy regimens for patients with advanced follicular lymphoma (FL), from the perspective of the UK National Health Service (NHS).

Methods: Results from four randomized controlled trials comparing the addition of rituximab to chemotherapy regimens: mitoxantrone, chlorambucil, and prednisolone (MCP); cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and prednisolone (CVP); cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone (CHOP); or cyclophosphamide, etoposide, doxorubicin, prednisolone, and interferon alpha (CHVP + IFNalpha) versus chemotherapy alone were used to develop a Markov model. The rates of disease progression and the duration of treatment effect were obtained from the trial data.

Estimation of ribosomal RNA operon (rrn) copy number in Acinetobacter isolates and potential of patterns of rrn operon-containing fragments for typing strains of members of this genus.

The copy number of the rrn operon in 70 strains of Acinetobacter including the type strains of almost all the genomic species with validated names was estimated after digestion of their genomic DNA by the restriction enzymes BglII and PstI, and Southern blotting. Copy number estimates varied between and among species, with between 3 and 7 rrn operon copies detected. Copy number estimates obtained from the same strain with the two enzymes sometimes varied.

Naturally transformable Acinetobacter sp. strain ADP1 belongs to the newly described species Acinetobacter baylyi.

Genotypic and phenotypic analyses were carried out to clarify the taxonomic position of the naturally transformable Acinetobacter sp. strain ADP1. Improved permeabilization protocols for fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) of mycolic-acid-containing bacteria found in foams.

Formation of thick, stable foams and scums on activated sludge wastewater treatment plants is a worldwide problem, and to better understand what causes this foam and to cure it, there is a need to identify and quantify the bacteria present there. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) overcomes the difficulties experienced with microscopic methods of identification for the mycolic-acid-containing actinomycetes (the mycolata), which are present in foams, where many share the morphotype of right-angled branching filaments. However, the presence of hydrophobic mycolic acids in their cell wall makes this group of bacteria particularly difficult to permeabilise, which greatly reduces the usefulness of FISH.
