Background: Slowing the progression of dementia and maintaining mental and social wellness are important for people living with dementia (PWD) and their caregivers. Social engagement can help with delaying the onset of dementia among people living with mild cognitive impairment. Maintaining meaningful social engagement through activities, such as gameplay, can promote a sense of belonging and identity while maintaining mental functioning.

Older adults in the United States continue to be impacted by food insecurity. Diabetes is on the rise in older adults and insulin therapy is often recommended as treatment. However, less is known about the relationship between food insecurity and insulin adherence among older adults.

This study analyzed the 2021 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) to assess food insecurity among adults aged 65 and older. Among 8,877 older adults, 4 percent (N=287) reported low or very low food security levels. Those who identified as Black or African American and Hispanic or Latino were more likely to experience food insecurity compared to White individuals.
