Using ultraviolet dermoscopy in diagnosing scabies.

The latest generation ultraviolet (UV) dermatoscopes, which emit UV light at a wavelength of 365 nm and enlarge lesions, are practical devices that can facilitate the diagnosis and follow-up of some dermatological diseases with fluorescence that can be observed in skin lesions. In 305 patients, 468 tunnels were evaluated: first in polarized mode and later in UV mode. The recorded samples were compared one-to-one by the same dermatologist.

Assessment of thyroid disorders in patients with rosacea: a large case-control study.

Background: The frequency of autoimmune diseases and thyroid cancer has been increasingly reported in association with rosacea. However, studies investigating thyroid diseases in rosacea are scarce with conflicting results.

Background: In recent studies, microRNAs (mi-RNAs) have been shown to play an important role in psoriasis pathogenesis. However, studies evaluating mi-RNAs in the blood of psoriasis patients including a large number of mi-RNA panels are scarce.

Objective: The authors aimed to assess mi-RNA expressions in blood samples of psoriasis patients, as well as to evaluate the association between mi-RNA expression and psoriasis severity.

Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome in patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria.

Urticaria is a disease which progresses with itchy papules and plaques called urtica, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is defined as daytime sleepiness and obstructive apnea and hypopnea attacks during sleep. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between urticaria and OSAS. Thirty-one patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria were included in the study.

Epicardial fat thickness is ıncreased and associated with disease severity in hidradenitis suppurativa.

Previous studies showed an association between various dermatological diseases and epicardial fat thickness (EFT). However, EFT, which has been accepted as a cardiometabolic risk factor in recent years, has not been studied in the context of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). Therefore, we aimed to determine whether EFT is increased in HS patients, and whether EFT is associated with disease severity.

Isotretinoin-induced pruritic erythematous lesions and acute chest pain in a 15-year-old girl.

Isotretinoin is widely used in the treatment of acne vulgaris for more than 30 years (1). In addition to its systemic side effects, isotretinoin may also cause mucocutaneous side effects including cheilitis, nasal hemorrhage, dry skin, itching, rash, pigmented purpuric dermatosis, dry nose, purpura, and photosensitivity. We report a case of a 15-year-old girl given isotretinoin for severe acne vulgaris who developed pruritic erythematous lesions and chest pain 5 min after taking the first dose 20 mg of isotretinoin.

Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit. Dermcidin (DCD) is an antimicrobial peptide released from eccrine sweat glands and sebaceous glands. Studies investigating the role of DCD expression in acne development are scarce.

Widespread cutaneous metastasis from ovarian serous adenocarcinoma.

Cutaneous metastasis can be rarely first manifestation of internal cancers; these usually develop with advanced stage malignancies. Cutaneous metastasis of ovarian cancer is rare and the majority of are seen around the pelvic region compatible with the localization of the primary ovarian tumor. Herein, we report a patient with ovarian cancer with widespread and distant cutaneous metastases showing multiple nodules and ulcers.

Pustular eruption induced by etanercept in a patient with ankylosing spondylitis: a rare side effect.

Etanercept is a tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-a) antagonist with anti-inflammatory effects. It is used in the treatment of dermatologic and rheumatologic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, polyarticular juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. However, etanercept has various cutaneous and systemic side effects.

Effect of the Syrian Civil War on Prevalence of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Southeastern Anatolia, Turkey.

Background: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a vector-mediated skin disease, characterized by chronic wounds on the skin and caused by macrophages in protozoan parasites. It is an endemic disease in the southern and southeastern Anatolia region and is still an important public health problem in Turkey. Because of the civil war in Syria, immigrants to this region in the last 3 years have begun to more frequently present with this disease.
