Interpretation of pseudothrombocytopenia using platelet histograms and flags in a hematology autoanalyzer in a healthy child: a case report.

Background: Pseudothrombocytopenia is a spurious thrombocytopenia caused mostly by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) use, and if detected early, unnecessary testing and treatment can be avoided. We present pseudothrombocytopenia caused by EDTA and citrate in an asymptomatic healthy child, as well as the value of using peripheral blood smear, platelet histogram, and flag data.

Case: A previously healthy 13-year-old girl with thrombocytopenia who developed tonsillitis 12 days previously was referred to our hematology department.

LAMB2 gene: broad clinical spectrum in Pierson syndrome.

Pierson syndrome (PS) is a rare autosomal recessive disease, characterized by congenital nephrotic syndrome (CNS), and ocular and neurologic abnormalities. In affected cases, there is abnormal b-2 laminin which is compound of the several basement membranes caused by inherited mutations in the LAMB2 gene. Although patients have mutations in the same gene, the phenotype is highly variable.

Synthesis, molecular structure, spectroscopic studies and second-order nonlinear optical behaviour of N,N'-(2-hydroxy-propane-1,3-diyl)-bis(5-nitrosalicylaldiminato-N,O)-copper(II).

N,N'-(2-Hydroxy-propane-1,3-diyl)-bis(5-nitrosalicylaldiminato-N,O)-copper(II) has been synthesized. The crystal structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis, and linear optical characterization has been determined by UV-vis spectroscopy. It was found that the molecule under investigation has solvatochromic behaviour in the UV region, implying non-zero microscopic first hyperpolarizability.
