Human mpox (formerly monkeypox) disease has recently been reported in a number of European countries among individuals with no history of international travel or animal contact, causing global epidemic concerns. We describe the demographic, clinical characteristics, and laboratory data of four male patients with mpox disease, three of whom were human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive, and one who was HIV-negative but had type 1 diabetes mellitus and a recent history of urological surgery. The HIV-negative patient attracted interest because he had no history of suspected sexual contact; however, he used shared bathrooms and towels at work, which could explain the potential transmission route.

The electrochemical characterization of sulfadiazine-cysteine (SD-CYS) adduct formation was performed in phosphate buffer (pH 7) on the basis of voltammetric current and peak potential measurements. Due to the association of cysteine with sulfadiazine, the reduction peak currents of mercuric and mercurous cysteine thiolates decreased and their peak potentials simultaneously shifted to less negative potentials. By using the current changes of mercurous cysteine thiolate, it was determined that cysteine and sulfadiazine are associated with a 1:1 stoichiometry with a conditional association constant of 1.

Schiff bases have many chemical and biological applications in medicine and pharmaceuticals due to the presence of an imine group (-C=N-). These bases are used in many different fields of technology, and in photochemistry because of their photochromic properties. Here, the structural and electronic properties of the Schiff base formed by tacrine and saccharin (TacSac) were explored using density functional theory with the B3LYP, M06-2X, M06L, and ωB97XD functionals in combination with the 6-311++G(d,p) basis set.

A new solid contact copper selective electrode with a poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane consisting of o-xylylenebis(N,N-diisobutyldithiocarbamate) as ionophore has been prepared. The main novelties of constructed ion selective electrode concept are the enhanced robustness, cheapness, and fastness due to the use of solid contacts. The electrode exhibits a rapid (< 10 seconds) and near-Nernstian response to Cu activity from 10 to 10 mol/L at the pH range of 4.

The voltammetric behaviours of aspartame in the presence of some metal ions (Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II)) were investigated. In the presence of aspartame, copper ions reduced at two stages with quasi-reversible one-electron and, with increasing the aspartame (L) concentration, Cu(II)L(2) complex reduces at one-stage with irreversible two-electron reaction (-0.322 V).
