Article Synopsis
  • In obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), mandibular advancement devices (MADs) serve as effective, non-invasive alternatives to CPAP therapy, helping to reduce AHI scores and improve quality of life.
  • A study involving 103 OSA patients assessed the impact of mandibular torus and other cephalometric factors on the effectiveness of MAD treatment, finding that those with a mandibular torus responded better to the device.
  • The presence of a mandibular torus significantly increases the likelihood of successful MAD treatment by nearly three times, highlighting its value as an easy-to-assess predictor of treatment efficacy.

  • Their study found fewer nerve fibers and structural issues in the pharynx of patients with obstructive sleep apnea, suggesting that neurological changes play a key role in the development of the disorder.

Nowadays, the most efficient form of intravesical immunotherapy for superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder is the instillation of bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), proceeding from an attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis. In up to 40% of cases, its instillation is associated with significantly elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. In these cases, prostate biopsy should be withheld for 3 months and PSA should be monitored.

In most cases, a single tooth is impacted, and a single surgical procedure is performed. We present a case of posttraumatic bilateral impaction of both maxillary central incisors with complete inversion after combined 2-step surgery and orthodontic treatment.
