Article Synopsis

Salvage radical prostatectomy (sRP) can be a curative option for prostate cancer that recurred after radiation, but it comes with significant risks, so the EAU recommends it only for patients with favorable prognosis.
A study of 1,265 men from 14 centers showed that those who met the EAU criteria had better outcomes, including lower metastasis rates and improved post-surgery quality of life.
The results suggest that following these criteria is crucial, as non-compliant patients faced higher risks of cancer recurrence and poorer overall survival after surgery.

Background: Most prostate cancer (PCa) recurrences after nonsurgical first-line treatment are managed with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). When local treatment is indicated, salvage focal treatment (FT) may achieve outcomes similar to those after salvage radical prostatectomy (sRP), with lower morbidity.
