Chronic inflammation and psychosocial factors significantly influence cancer progression and patient behavior in seeking medical care. Understanding their interplay is essential for enhancing early detection and developing personalized treatment strategies. This study aims to develop a comprehensive patient profiling model by comparing non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) and colorectal cancer (CRC).

Background: This study examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on abdominal trauma management by comparing pre-pandemic (17 February 2018-26 February 2020) and pandemic periods (27 February 2020-7 March 2022).

Methods: Analyzing data from 118 patients at the Emergency County Clinical Hospital of Craiova, we identified significant shifts in clinical practices affecting patient outcomes.

Results: During the pandemic, a moderate increase in surgical interventions for specific abdominal traumas indicated the effective adaptation of the medical system.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the survival outcomes of acute pancreatitis patients based on the timing of their diagnosis—pre-pandemic, during the pandemic, and with confirmed COVID-19 infection.
  • A multicentric, retrospective case-control study matched 28 patients with both SARS-CoV-2 and acute pancreatitis against two groups of 56 patients with acute pancreatitis, one from before the pandemic and one during it.
  • Findings revealed that patients with both conditions faced a six-fold higher risk of death compared to pre-pandemic cases, and pandemic-related delays in care increased the death risk three-fold for those with acute pancreatitis during the pandemic.

We aimed at evaluating the prognostic capacity of the inflammatory indices derived from routine complete blood cell counts in two groups of patients with acute pancreatitis from two different time periods, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, when a high incidence of complications with surgical risk and mortality was found. Two new markers were introduced: the mean corpuscular volume to lymphocyte ratio (MCVL) and the cumulative inflammatory index (IIC), which were calculated at a baseline in the two groups of patients. Of the already established markers, none of them managed to effectively predict the complications with surgical risk and mortality, with a decrease of less than 50% in specificity in the peri-COVID group.

Aim: Highlighting certain characteristics of T- and B-lymphocytes, as well as of vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) as a prognosis factors for patients suffering from acute pancreatitis, with the scope of establishing diagnosis and therapy.

Materials And Methods: Pancreatic tissue samples were analyzed, originating from 21 patients deceased due to acute pancreatitis, between the years 2015 and 2016. The study group was subdivided into two subgroups by pathology duration.
