[Anatomy of the skull].

The anatomy of the human body based on a special teleological system is one of the greatest miracles of the world. The skull's primary function is the defence of the brain, so every alteration or disease of the brain results in some alteration of the skull. This analogy is to be identified even in the human embryo.

[The beginnings of anthropology in Hungary].

In the second half of the 19th century anthropological research started everywhere in the world. Cranioscopy formed an important part of physical anthropology. József Lenhossék (1818-1888) worked also on this subject and on the basis of one of his investigations in 1875 he became the founder of physical anthropology in Hungary.

Characterization of human pituitary adenomas in cell cultures by light and electron microscopic morphology and immunolabeling.

The morphology and hormone production of pituitary adenoma cell cultures were compared in order to highlight their characteristic in vitro features. Cell suspensions were prepared from 494 surgical specimens. The 319 viable monolayer cultures were analyzed in detail by light microscopy and immunocytochemistry within two weeks of cultivation.

[Dezsö Miskolczy, the founder of modern Hungarian neurology].

The present article gives a short overview on the biography and scientific work of professor Dezsö Miskolczy, one of the founders of Hungarian neurology. his main scientific achievement was the modification of the Bielschowsky-method of imprenation. Miskolczy published already in 1926 an article on the problem of the crossing of central tracks of nervous system.

Intracranial meningiomas developing at long intervals following low-dose X-ray irradiation of the head.

Five patients are reported who underwent X-ray epilation in childhood for tinea capitis and who developed meningiomas after about four decades. X-ray irradiation resulted in permanent alopecia in four of the five patients. In four patients the tumors were found on the convexity, one patient had a tuberculum sellae meningioma.
