Børgesen is distributed worldwide in tropical and subtropical seas; belongs to the Dictyotaceae family, and has proven to be an exceptional source of biologically active compounds. Four compounds were isolated and identified, namely: dolastane diterpene new for the genus ; phaeophytin and hidroxy-phaeophytin new for the family Dictyotaceae, and; mannitol first described in this species. Saturated fatty acids as compared to the percentages of unsaturated fatty acids were shown to be present in greater abundance.

The hexane, acetate and methanol fractions of propolis 1 also inhibited all strains with minimum inhibitory concentration values ranging from 128 to 512μg/mL for the six bacteria tested and from 32 to 1024μg/mL for the yeasts.

The occurrence of alkaloids from Annonaceae species, as well as their chemical structures and pharmacological activities are summarized in informative and easy-to-understand tables. Within the Annonaceae family, the genera Annona, Duguetia, and Guatteria have led to many important publications.

Padina sanctae-crucis is a seaweed often used to check the contamination of ecosystems by materials such as heavy metals, but studies of the antimicrobial activity of the same seaweed were not found.
Methods: The tests for the minimum inhibitory concentration and modulation of microbial resistance, with the use of ethanolic and methanolic extracts of Padina Sanctae-cruces combined with drugs of the class of aminoglycosides and antifungal were used to evaluate the activity against the cited microorganisms.

The objective of the study was to investigate the mechanism of the relaxant activity of the ent-15α-acetoxykaur-16-en-19-oic acid (KA-acetoxy). In rat mesenteric artery rings, KA-acetoxy induced a concentration-dependent relaxation in vessels precontracted with phenylephrine. In the absence of endothelium, the vasorelaxation was significantly shifted to the right without reduction of the maximum effect.

Phytochemical investigation of Anaxagorea dolichocarpa Sprague & Sandwith led to isolation of three azaphenanthrene alkaloids: eupolauramine, sampangine and imbiline 1. Their chemical structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic data from IR, HR-ESI-MS, NMR (including 2D experiments) and comparison with the literature. Sampangine and imbiline 1 are being described in the Anaxagorea genus for the first time.

In such cases, they are used as chemotaxonomic markers for the difficult task of taxonomic identification by using morphological characteristics of plants belonging to this family. The present work describes the distribution of ecdysteroids in plants from the genus Vitex from a review of previous work on seventeen Vitex species.

The structures of these isolates were deduced by spectroscopic data interpretation. X-ray crystallography of 1 was used to confirm its structure.

The products obtained were: Nb-4-methoxy-benzoyltryptamine, Nb-2,4-dimethoxy-benzoyltryptamine, Nb-3,4-dimethoxy-benzoyltryptamine, Nb-3,4-methylenedioxy-benzoyltryptamine and Nb-3,4,5-trimethoxy-benzoyltryptamine. They were characterized through the usual spectrometric methods (UV, IR, 1H and 13C NMR) and showed non-selective relaxant activity in guinea-pig ileum pre-contracted with acetylcholine, histamine and KCl.

Their structures were established by spectrometric data, mainly 1D- and 2D-NMR and mass spectra. The methylazoetetrazolium (MTT) method using viable cells of the strain Hep2 and the strain NCIH-292 demonstrated cytotoxic activity.
