Platelet separation from whole blood in an aqueous two-phase system with water-soluble polymers.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) stimulates tissue healing and centrifugation is the only method for PRP preparation. The purpose of the present study was to develop a method to separate platelets without centrifugation. We used 16 polymers of different chemical characteristics and mixed each polymer with fresh whole blood containing anticoagulant citrate-dextrose.

The transition to parenthood among young African American and Latino couples: relational predictors of risk for parental dysfunction.

This study examined relationship factors associated with parental dysfunction among young African American and Latino couples. Parent dysfunction was defined in terms of parenting stress, child abuse potential, physically punitive behavior, and paternal disengagement. Fathers who reported positive relations with their own parents and partners before childbirth reported more positive adjustments to parenthood at follow-up.

Post-operative stability of the maxilla treated with Le Fort I and horseshoe osteotomies in bimaxillary surgery.

In this study, the post-operative change of the maxilla in six non-cleft patients who underwent combination (Le Fort I and horseshoe) osteotomy for superior repositioning of the maxilla was investigated. In all patients, the maxilla was first osteotomized and fixed with four Luhr plates. No iliac bone graft was applied to the maxilla.
