Innovations in electrophysiological recordings and computational analytic techniques enable high-resolution analysis of neural traveling waves. Here, we present a protocol for the detection and analysis of traveling waves from multi-day microelectrode array human electrophysiological recordings through a multi-linear regression statistical approach using point estimator data. We describe steps for traveling wave detection, feature characterization, and propagation pattern analysis.

Case: A 73-year old man who underwent previous L2-S1 decompression presenting with new right radicular leg pain. Imaging suggests a large central disk herniation at L1-2 with possible intrathecal extension requiring surgical decompression. When positioned prone on a Jackson frame, neuromonitoring motor signals became diminished, and thus, the case was aborted.

Integrated behavioral healthcare interventions have increased access to care for people with behavioral health conditions in primary care settings. However, they have not been widely implemented in low-barrier HIV care settings where undertreated behavioral health needs remain high. We conducted a formative qualitative evaluation, using in-depth interviews with purposively selected stakeholders ( = 13) and patients ( = 16), to identify anticipated barriers and facilitators to integrating care for depression and opioid use disorder for people with HIV via the Collaborative Care Model at a low-barrier HIV clinic.

Article Synopsis
  • - The peritoneal cancer index helps evaluate the extent of peritoneal disease before surgery.
  • - Current imaging methods like 18 F-FDG PET/CT are better than CT but still underestimate the disease because of high background activity in the body.
  • - A new imaging technique using 68 Ga-trivehexin targets cancer integrins, showing less background activity and potentially providing a more accurate assessment of advanced epithelial ovarian cancer.

Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring has added substantially to the safety of spinal deformity surgery correction since its introduction over four decades ago. Monitoring routinely includes both somatosensory evoked potentials and motor evoked potentials. Either modality alone will detect almost all instances of spinal cord injury during deformity correction.

Study Design: Retrospective review.

Objective: Assess the feasibility of saphenous nerve somatosensory evoked potentials (SN-SSEP) monitoring in lumbar spine surgeries.

Background Context: SN-SSEPs have been proposed for detecting lumbar plexus and femoral nerve injury during lateral lumbar surgery where tibial nerve (TN) SSEPs alone are insufficient.

Radioactive iodine (RAI) accumulation is commonly used for the detection of metastatic disease posttotal thyroidectomy. However, false-positive results have been reported due to abnormal RAI accumulation in some benign pathologies apart from metastatic sites. Here, we present one such case where false-positive I-131 uptake in the pelvis which localized to the cervix and was attributed to menstruation.

Background: The collaborative care management (CoCM) model is an evidence-based intervention for integrating behavioral health care into nonpsychiatric settings. CoCM has been extensively studied in primary care clinics, but implementation in nonconventional clinics, such as those tailored to provide care for high-need, complex patients, has not been well described.

Method: We adapted CoCM for a low-barrier HIV clinic that provides walk-in medical care for a patient population with high levels of mental illness, substance use, and housing instability.

Chylothorax refers to the accumulation of triglyceride-rich fluid (chyle) within the pleural space. We described a case of spontaneous chylothorax in an infant. Lymphoscintigraphy was performed with 99 m-Tc sulfur colloid which showed tracer accumulation into thoracic cavity, and single-photon emission computed tomography/CT (SPECT/CT) revealed leak in the thoracic duct at D8 vertebral level as the cause.

The incidence of port-site metastases (PSMs) varies with the tumor type with adenocarcinoma having a high incidence. However, it is rarely seen in urological malignancies and more so in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). We hereby describe one such case of PSM after laparoscopic radical nephrectomy for RCC, which was detected on F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography.

The Guidelines for Qualifications of Neurodiagnostic Personnel (QNP) document has been created through the collaboration of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS), the American Society of Neurophysiological Monitoring (ASNM), the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM), and ASET The Neurodiagnostic Society (ASET). The quality of patient care is optimized when neurophysiological procedures are performed and interpreted by appropriately trained and qualified practitioners at every level. These societies recognize that neurodiagnostics is a large field with practitioners who have entered the field through a variety of training paths.

White adipose tissue (WAT) usually shows negligible F-FDG uptake due to negligible glucose utilization. However, corticosteroids alter the biodistribution of F-FDG and increase uptake in WAT. Here, we present a case of diffusely increased F-FDG uptake in WAT secondary to high-dose corticosteroid therapy for nephrotic syndrome.

Radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy is widely used and has an important role in the management of hyperthyroidism and thyroid malignancies. The development of acute or chronic leukemia is a very rare complication of RAI therapy. We report a case of metastatic Follicular thyroid cancer (FTC) who underwent total thyroidectomy followed by treatment with a cumulative dose of 1600 mCi of RAI (for 4 years) and by palliative radiotherapy for L4 spinal metastasis, later on, developed acute myeloid leukemia.

Biofuels made from biomass and waste residues will largely contribute to United States' 2050 decarbonization goal in the aviation sector. While cellulosic biofuels have the potential fuel performance equivalent to petroleum-based jet fuel, the biofuel industry needs to overcome the supply chain barrier caused by temporal and spatial variability of biomass yield and quality. This study highlights the importance of incorporating spatial and temporal variability during biomass supply chain planning via optimization modeling that incorporates 10 years of drought index data, a primary factor contributing to yield and quality variability.

Microphytobenthos (MPB), typically comprised mainly of diatoms, is a key contributor to nearshore energy flow and nutrient cycles. Deposit-feeding invertebrates are known to alter the structure and activity of MPB. The eastern mud snail Ilyanassa obsoleta can reach extremely high densities in estuaries of the northwestern Atlantic, and their deposit-feeding and locomotion strongly influence other invertebrates and microbes.
