[Effect of succinate-containing medications on hepatic structural changes in acute experimental cholecystitis].

Histological and electron microscopic changes in the hepatic structure were studied in animals with acute experimental cholecystitis. The administration of the succinate-containing drugs reamberin and mexidole decreased the magnitude of morphological changes in the liver tissue. Morphometric examination revealed that reamberin versus mexidole showed a high efficacy in reducing the area of hepatocytic necrosis.

[Variants of the anatomical structure of frontal sinuses based on the results of X-ray computed tomography].

The objective of the present work was to analyse computed tomograms of brain and paranasal sinuses obtained from 3,054 patients with a view to elucidating specific features of the latter's structure. The following structural variants were distinguished: agenesia, hypogenesia, and hypergenesia. Orbital, zygomatic, temporal, cock's comb, ethmoidal, and nasal recesses in the frontal sinuses were described.

[Demographic aspects of social security of elderly population in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region].

Social security of elderly people is discussed at different levels of the realization of the geronto-social policy in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region within the context of the Madrid Plan of Actions on Aging. There have been comparatively analyzed demographic indicators that show age structures of the regions which are parts of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region. There have been defined regional differences and trends of improvement of geronto-social policy for providing security of life activity of elderly people in the Russian part of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region.

[Changes of the neuropil ultrastructure in the CA1 hippocampal area of rat pups after hyaluronidase treatment].

Electron microscopical and electrophysiological studies were carried out in cross-sections of the hippocampus of 4-weeks-old male rat pups (n = 35) to detect the ultrastructural changes in CA1 hippocampal area and the peculiarities of excitatory postsynaptic potential formation in this brain area after the incubation of the sections in the solution of hyaluronidase (10 U/ml), the enzyme which specifically degrades the extracellular matrix glycosaminoglycan--the hyaluronic acid. The reduction of the width of synaptic cleft by 15-25% in the axo-dendritic contacts of the stratum radiatum of CA1 hippocampal area was detected 1.5 min following the application of enzyme, coinciding with the increase of the excitatory postsynaptic potential amplitude.

[SRE, NF-kappaB, and AP-1 DNA-binding activities induced by A431 cell adhesion correlate with actin cytoskeleton reorganization].

Cell adhesion to extracellular matrix proteins induces activation of different signal molecules and influences gene expression. As shown earlier, epidermoid carcinoma A431 cell adhesion to fibronectin, laminin-2/4 or antibodies to receptor EGF (ab EGFR) results in reorganization of specific cell shape and actin cytoskeleton in the majority of cells. This study resolves a question whether morphological changes are accompanied with some cell response at the level of gene expression in nuclei.

[Magnesium sulfate in management of bronchial asthma].

The effect of magnesium sulfate aerosol (osmolality of the solution 260 mmol/l, pH 6.6) on bronchial sensitivity and reactivity to acetylcholine (AC) and graded exercise as well as bronchial permeability measured by general plethysmography and pneumotaxography were evaluated in 49 patients with mild and moderate bronchial asthma (BA). When compared to placebo, magnesium sulfate (MS) inhalations performed at the stage of attenuating exacerbation, improved immediate and long-term response of patients with atopic and effort BA.

[The glycogen-forming function of the hepatocytes during the regeneration of the cirrhotic rat liver after a partial hepatectomy].

The paper deals with a cytofluorimetric study of the content of glycogen and its fractions as well as with a microbiochemical study of glucose-6-phosphatase, glycogen phosphorylase, and glycogen synthase activities in the rat liver parenchyma cells in norm, in the course of cirrhosis development, and at various time intervals after the end of the carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) poisoning and after a partial hepatectomy (PH). Serial liver biopsies were obtained from each animal prior to CCl4 action (control), 6 months after a chronic intoxication with CCl4 inducing liver cirrhosis, and then 3 and 6 months after the end of CCl4 poisoning of rats, and after the cirrhotic liver PH. It has been shown that the total glycogen content in the cirrhotic liver hepatocytes increases by 1.

[Etiological structure and antibiotic sensitivity of the causative agents of puerperal endometritis].

The study revealed the dominating role of aerobic-anaerobic microbial associations and in particular the specific role of anaerobic gram positive cocci in development of puerperal endometritis. The data suggested that a definite level of the uterus cavity contamination with microbes, not lower than 10(4)-10(5) CFU/ml or a large number of bacterial associates, not less than 3 was necessary for endometritis development. It was confirmed that pathogenicity of anaerobes increased in the presence of aerobic bacteria.

[Comparative clinical efficacy of cephotaxim and cefuroxime against the pathogens of inflammation in obstetrics and gynecology].

The use of cephotaxim in the treatment of obstetric and gynecological patients with various infectious complications, as well as in the treatment of newborn infants in the Department of Intensive Therapy showed it to be highly effective in 100 per cent of the cases. The adverse reactions of cephotaxim were observed in 1 out of 43 patients. It should be noted that cephotaxim did not inhibit the host anaerobic indigenous flora.
