Stress-effects in the form of immobilization led to activation of the LP and inhibition of antioxidant activity (AOA) in the brain mainly in aged rats. The simultaneous introduction of tryptophan and nicotinic acid reduced negative changes of LP and AOA in the brain of old rats caused by immobilization stress exposure.

[Alteration of transport activity of proton pumps in coleoptile cells during early development stages of maize seedlings].

Comparative analysis of the transport activity of proton pumps (plasmalemma H+-ATPase, vacuolar H+-ATPase, and vacuolar H+-pyrophosphatase) in the membrane preparations obtained from coleoptile cells ofetiolated maize seedlings (Zea mays L.) was carried out. The highest level ofvacuolar pyrophosphatase activity was observed during the early development of coleoptile cells under growth intensification through the elongation.

[Protein malnutrition in patient in the early postoperative period after uncomplicated removal of the brain tumors].

Malnutrition leads to adverse effects and may worsen clinical outcome. Surgery as a stress factor activates pathological reactions changing metabolism structure. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes of protein metabolism in patients after elective neurosurgical operation.

[Biological age and the pain syndrome at diabetic polyneuropathy].

Patients with diabetic polyneuropathy were examined to study their biological age, rate of aging and pain syndrome. More rapid rate of aging was revealed in patients with diabetic polyneuropathy and pain syndrome. Using Duloxetin and Gabapentin is reliable to decrease the display of pain syndrome in diabetic polyneuropathy patients.

[Callose accumulation during treatment of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) cells with biotic elicitors].

Time-course of induced accumulation of callose in tomato cells has been studied. Localization of callose in L. esculenthum cells was investigated by fluorescent microscopy technique, and the optimal time for its determination was found.

[The induced increase of chitinase activity in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L) cells].

The levels of chitinase activity induced with elicitors in tomato cells have been detected. It was shown that enzymatic activity depended on degree of polymerization and concentration of biotic elicitors.

[Suggested mitochondrial ancestry of non-mitochondrial ATP/ADP].

One of the major evolutionary events that transformed endosymbiotic bacterium into mitochondrion was an acquisition of ATP/ADP carrier in order to supply the host with respiration-derived ATP. Along with mitochondrial carrier, unrelated carrier is known which is characteristic of intracellular chlamydiae, plastids, parasitic intracellular eukaryote Encephalitozoon cuniculi, and the genus Rickettsia of obligate endosymbiotic alpha-Proteobacteria. This non-mitochondrial ATP/ADP carrier was recently described in rickettsia-like endosymbionts - a group of obligate intracellular bacteria, classified with the order Rickettsiales, which have diverged after free-living alpha-Proteobacteria but before sister groups of the Rickettsiaceae assemblage (true rickettsiae) and mitochondria.

[The application of variational cardiointervalography for optimization of anesthesia in outpatient surgery].

The vegetative regulation condition was investigated by the method of variation cardio-interval-graphy in patients who underwent the intravenous anesthesia in the outpatient setting. The experience of using, on the differential basis, the sympathomimetic and vagotonic anesthetics for different-type vegetative tonus was analyzed. An optimal state in the vegetative regulation of the cardiovascular system, a stable hemodynamics and an adequate post-narcosis rehabilitation in the anesthetic management of one-day surgery were ensured owing to the suggested method in choosing an anesthetic.

[Weak stress factors in the prevention of postoperative complications in elective orthopedic surgery].

Based on their personal and literature data the authors propose to use weak stressogenic factors (pyrogenal and interrupting normobaric hypoxia) as an element of preoperative preparation of patients for prevention of postoperative complications. The using of this method made the frequency of postoperative complications in the area of the operation wound twice as rare, outside the wound--three times as rare.

[Reorganization of the mineral matrix of the bone tissue].

Basing on experimental and clinical chronobiological investigations with an application of three different methods of estimation of osseous tissue mineral density: biochemical (phosphates content in bone tissue mineral matrix), roentgenographic densitometry and dual photon X-ray absorption, it has been shown that 4.5% of mineral matrix mass are in constant interchange with body fluids. It corresponds to the degree of fluctuations of osseous tissue mineral density (in the direction of increase or decrease) both locally and in the skeleton on the whole during the period of time amounting to about one week.

[Characteristics of recombinant fragments of the protective antigen SPA of epidemic typhus pathogens].

Fragments of a gene for species-specific protective antigen SPA of Rickettsia prowazekii earlier cloned in lambda gt11 were recloned into the in-frame expression vector pQE30. Polypeptides encoded by these fragments were shown to be synthesized in Escherichia coli with a yield of up to 100 micrograms/ml of culture and to be accumulated in the cells as inclusion bodies. The partially purified antigens were used in enzyme immunoassay with the sera of humans convalescing from epidemic typhus, tick-borne rickettsioses, and other infectious diseases.

[Evolutionary relationship of Rickettsia and eukaryotic mitochondria].

To clarify the evolutionary relationship of rickettsiae and mitochondria, the conserved flat heat-shock protein Hsp60 was phylogenetically studied in detail by using PHYLIP and PROTML packages. The ample data set (50 species) included as many as possible representatives from the Rickettsiaceae family, mitochondrial-type homologs from Archezoa and mitochondrial homologs from Protozoa. Rickettsia prowazekii (that is the genus Rickettsia) was shown to be the least diverging member within Rickettsia--a sister group to the monophyletic clade of mitochondria.

[Phylogenetic analysis based on groE shows the closest evolutionary relationship between mitochondria and Rickettsia].

The nucleotide sequence of the groE operon of Rickettsia prowazekii, the obligate intracellular parasite of eukaryotes, was determined. The alignment of DNA-inferred amino acid sequences of the Hsp10 and Hsp60 heat-shock proteins with bacterial and mitochondrial homologues revealed the presence within Hsp60 of signatures shared by mitochondria and rickettsiae. A 29.5 kda outer membrane protein (OmpB) of R. prowazekii virulent Breinl strain is known to differ from its counterpart in attenuated Madrid E strain, while OmpB of this latter one and of its virulent variant EVir coincide in mobility.

[Effects of low-intensity electromagnetic irradiation and endogenous peptides on isolated neurons of Helix lucorum].

In experiments with isolated neurones of molluscan Helix lucorum the effects of low intensity electromagnetic fields (EMF) and endogenous peptides on the transmembrane current dynamics was studied. A certain relationship between peptides and EMF effects was shown. Some features of primary mechanisms of EMF biological action were clarified.

[Selective solubilization and biochemical analysis of R. prowazekii outer membrane proteins].

Solubilization of proteins from total membranes (a mixture of cytoplasmic and outer membranes) of Rickettsia prowazekii, a typical gram-negative bacterium, was studied using three different detergents. It was shown that isolated outer membranes and sarkosyl-insoluble material contain major polypeptides of 134, 31, 29.5 and 25 kDa as well as minor polypeptides of 78, 60, 42, and 17 kDa, while the total membranes--the same plus a great number of additional minor proteins.

[Cloning and expression in Escherichia coli of three Rickettsia prowazekii genes, coding outer membrane proteins].

Rickettsia prowazekii (virulent Breinl strain) random genomic DNA fragments were cloned in the lambda gt11 expression vector by using non-palindromic adaptors. Several immunoreactive clones were selected after screening 20,000 individual recombinant plaques with human convalescent serum.
