Feedlot cattle may be subjected to digestive disorders, including ruminal acidosis, due to high concentration of grain in their diet. Therefore, novel feeding strategies are required to maximize animal performance and mitigate economic losses in the operation. This study employed a two-period crossover design to assess the effect of direct ruminal administration of native rumen microorganisms (NRM) inoculation on cattle that underwent a high-grain challenge.

The sudden onset of the coronavirus disease led to a rapid expansion of video telehealth to deliver mental healthcare. Although video telehealth was not a new clinical practice, there was limited guidance on how best to modify evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs) for virtual delivery (a process also referred to as virtualization). The virtualization process for EBPs remains unclear as newly emerging reports on this topic do not consistently report modification decisions.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome (PIMS), a rare condition linked to SARS-CoV-2, using national data from over 2800 pediatricians in Canada.
  • Key findings indicate that out of 406 hospitalized children, nearly half had confirmed positive links to COVID-19, leading to more severe symptoms such as cardiac and gastrointestinal issues, and a higher incidence of shock.
  • The results highlight that children with positive SARS-CoV-2 linkages, especially those over 6 years old, are more likely to require intensive care support compared to those with negative linkages.

  • Antimicrobial resistance poses a significant challenge in treating infections, particularly in hospitalized patients, but there is limited data regarding its use in pediatric populations compared to adults.
  • A study analyzed antimicrobial use (AMU) in nine Canadian hospitals, collecting data from pediatric inpatients over 2017 and 2018, with results reported as days of therapy (DOT) per 1000 patient days (DOT/1000pd).
  • The findings indicated that the overall AMU was 481 DOT/1000pd, with the highest usage in Pediatric ICUs, and identified specific antimicrobials commonly used in different wards, highlighting the need for ongoing surveillance and stewardship efforts.

The COVID-19 pandemic has required close examination of workforce-related stressors that over decades have contributed to widespread burnout, negative health outcomes, including mental health outcomes, and the loss of the well-educated professionals who are the future of the nursing profession. In the United States and globally, evidence points to factors known to diminish well-being, including inequities, issues of minority status, persistent discrimination, and demanding work environments. The American Academy of Nursing (AAN), dedicated to organizational excellence, nursing leadership and evidence-based policy, develops statements reflecting its mission and those of its nursing affiliates and corporate member, The American Nurses Association.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth became a widely used method of delivering treatment for substance use disorders (SUD), but its impact upon treatment engagement and dropout remains unknown. We conducted a retrospective analysis of adult SUD patients (n = 544) between October 2020 and June 2022 among a cohort of treatment-seeking patients at a nonprofit community behavioral health center in Southwestern Ohio. We estimated the likelihood of treatment dropout using survival curves and Cox proportional hazard models, comparing patients who used telehealth with video, telephone, or solely in-person services within the first 14 days of diagnosis.
