AMNIOTIC MEMBRANE TRANSPLANT IN A PATIENT WITH RECURRENT MACULAR HOLE AND ATROPHIC AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION.

Purpose: To report a case of a recurrent macular hole (MH) and atrophic age-related macular degeneration in a patient, treated with human amniotic membrane transplant.

Methods: Interventional case report.

Results: A 72-year-old man was referred to our Retina Unit for a recurrent MH associated with atrophic age-related macular degeneration.

Two-port dry vitrectomy for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment: a pilot study.

Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a new surgical technique for the management of primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), consisting of localized PPV near the retinal break(s), without infusion line, associated with a drainage of subretinal fluid and cryoretinopexy.

Methods: Multicentric prospective study conducted at the University Hospital of Cagliari and IRCCS Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli, Roma.

Management of Accidental Intravitreal Dexamethasone Injection Into the Lens: A Case Report.

An accidental injection of a dexamethasone implant inside the crystalline lens was observed in the right eye of a 63-year-old woman suffering from a macular edema secondary to a central retinal vein occlusion. A 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy and lensectomy followed by an intraocular lens implantation were performed to carefully remove the lens and save the whole implant in order to preserve its therapeutics effects. A strict follow-up over the following 3 months revealed an improving of macular edema and no postoperative complications.

Two-Port "Dry Vitrectomy" as a New Surgical Technique for Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment: Focus on Macula-on Results.

We evaluated a new surgical technique for treating primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), consisting of localized vitrectomy near the retinal break associated with drainage of subretinal fluid without infusion. Twelve eyes of twelve patients with primary RRDs with macula-on superior, temporal, and/or nasal quadrants' RRD with retinal breaks between 8 and 4 o'clock, pseudophakic or phakic eyes, were enrolled. All eyes underwent a two-port 25-gauge vitrectomy with localized removal of the vitreous surrounding the retinal break(s), followed by a 20% SF6 injection and cryopexy.

Safety and efficacy of cryopexy during pars Plana vitrectomy in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

Purpose: To evaluate efficacy and safety of intraoperative cryoretinopexy in cases of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).

Methods: In this retrospective, interventional case series, we review the medical records of 85 consecutive cases of RRD treated with pars plana vitrectomy and gas tamponade, without the use of perfluorocarbon liquids. Baseline best-corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure, number and location of retinal breaks, location and extension of retinal detachment, duration of symptoms, macula status, presence, and grade of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) were registered.

Intravitreal Injection Planning during COVID-19 Pandemic: A Retrospective Study of Two Tertiary University Centers in Italy.

The COVID-19 pandemic has hampered the optimum management of retinal diseases. This study examined the impact of the pandemic on the intravitreal-injection practice in two academic centers in Italy along with the related medico-legal implications. A retrospective analysis of electronic medical records from 16 March 2020 to 14 March 2021 at the ophthalmological departments of University of Cagliari (SGD) and University Magna Græcia of Catanzaro (UMG) was conducted.

En Face Choroidal Vascularity in Both Eyes of Patients with Unilateral Central Serous Chorioretinopathy.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the choroidal vascularity analyzing en face optical coherence tomography (OCT) images in patients with unilateral central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). We retrospectively evaluated 40 eyes of 20 CSC patients and 20 eyes of 10 gender- and age-matched healthy individuals. The sample consisted of: (1) CSC affected eyes; (2) unaffected fellow eyes; (3) healthy eyes.

Ocular Surface Changes Associated with Face Masks in Healthcare Personnel during COVID-19 Pandemic.

The aim of this study was to investigate ocular surface changes associated with face mask (FMs) use of healthcare personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic. We prospectively evaluated 200 eyes of 100 individuals during working hours and 40 eyes of 20 individuals during their rest days as a control group. Dry eye symptoms were assessed with the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) and McMonnies questionnaire.
