The aim of this work is to develop an efficient method for detection and evaluation of the plant growth regulators produced from cyanobacteria species (Anabaena oryzae and Nostoc muscorum) cultivated on BG11, and Chlorophyta alga (Chlorella vulgaris) cultivated on BG11 in addition to the cultivation of these strains on treated sewage wastewater (TSW) combined with control media (BG11 and BG11) at different concentrations (100, 75 and 50%). Bioassays were performed on Wheat coleoptile length and Cucumber cotyledons fresh weight for indole acetic acid (IAA) and Benzyl adenine (BA) detection. In addition, application experiments of IAA and BA presence in algal extract were applied on tomato plantlets and soybean callus.

A series of N-aryl derivatives of pyrrole and its related derivatives of fused form (namely; tetrahydroindole and dihydroindenopyrroles) were prepared in fair to good yields. The newly synthesized compounds were confirmed using IR, (1)H NMR, Mass spectral and elemental analysis. Tetrahydrobenzo[b] pyrroles Ia-d, 1,4-dihydroindeno[1,2-b]pyrroles IIa,b and pyrroles IIIa-c,e were evaluated for anticancer activity, coinciding with the antioxidant activity; using Di-Phenyl Picryl Hydrazyl (DPPH) tests.

Article Synopsis
  • Eichhornia crassipes, an invasive plant in the Nile Delta, has been studied for its potential anticancer and antioxidant properties through its crude extract and isolated compounds.
  • The study utilized various extraction and separation techniques, analyzing nine distinct fractions of the plant, employing spectroscopic methods to identify them, and testing for antioxidant and anticancer efficacy on multiple cancer cell lines.
  • Overall, the crude extract displayed the strongest antioxidant and anticancer effects, while the individual compounds showed varying degrees of activity, specifically highlighting Compound I's potency against the HepG2 cell line and Compound D's effectiveness against HeLa and EACC cell lines.

Objective: To investigate the antioxidant and anticancer activities of aqueous extracts of nine microalgal species.

Methods: Variable percentages of major secondary metabolites (total phenolic content, terpenoids and alkaloids) as well as phycobiliprotein pigments (phycocyanin, allophycocyanin and phycoerythrin) in the aqueous algal extracts were recorded. Antioxidant activity of the algal extracts was performed using 2, 2 diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) test and 2,2'- azino-bis (ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS.

The green macroalgae, Enteromorpha compressa (Linnaeus) Nees, Ulva lactuca, and E. linza, were seasonally collected from Abu Qir bay at Alexandria (Mediterranean Sea) This work aimed to investigate the seasonal environmental conditions, controlling the green algal growth, predominance, or disappearance and determining antioxidant activity. The freshly collected selected alga (E.

Algae, like other plants, produce a variety of remarkable compounds collectively referred to as secondary metabolites. They are synthesized by these organisms at the end of the growth phase and/or due to metabolic alterations induced by environmental stress conditions. Carotenoids, phenolic compounds, phycobiliprotein pigments, polysaccharides and unsaturated fatty acids are same of the algal natural products, which were reported to have variable biological activities, including antioxidant activity, anticancer activity, antimicroabial activity against bacteria-virus-algae-fungi, organic fertilizer and bioremediation potentials.

Article Synopsis
  • Eichhornia crassipes, an invasive weed, competes with native plants and harms microbes, with its spread likely increasing due to global warming.
  • The study involved extracting compounds from E. crassipes and testing their antibacterial and anti-algal properties, revealing effectiveness against various bacteria and some algae, particularly Chlorella vulgaris.
  • Gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy identified key active compounds, including an alkaloid and four phthalate derivatives, linked to the observed antimicrobial and antialgal activities.
