Article Synopsis
  • - This study examined how genetic thrombophilia affects early versus late pregnancy loss in 156 women, dividing them into two groups based on when they experienced miscarriage.
  • - Key genetic mutations were identified as risk factors for pregnancy loss, with certain combinations, like Factor V Leiden and MTHFR mutations, showing significant interactions linked to early loss.
  • - Various mutations had different odds ratios indicating their risk levels, with some being more associated with early pregnancy loss (like PAI-1 4G/5G) and others (like MTHFR A1298C) linked to late pregnancy loss.

  • Vitamin D deficiency is linked to poor outcomes in patients with lymphoid malignancies, with a review of 15 studies showing a median vitamin D level of 20.4 ng/mL among 4503 patients.
  • Significant associations were found between low vitamin D levels and increased risk of disease progression and lower overall survival rates, particularly in those with levels below 20 ng/mL.
  • Further investigation is needed to explore how vitamin D supplementation might improve treatment efficacy and patient survival in cases of lymphoid cancers.

  • Multiple myeloma (MM) is a type of blood cancer characterized by the growth of abnormal plasma cells in the bone marrow, leading to high levels of various proteins and immunoglobulins; despite advancements in treatment, it remains largely incurable and most patients relapse over time.
  • This study assessed the effectiveness of two pretransplant treatment regimens, VCD (bortezomib, cyclophosphamide, dexamethasone) and VTD (bortezomib, thalidomide, dexamethasone), in 105 hospitalized patients, with a focus on the rate of complete remission before transplantation.
  • Results indicated that 37.2% of VCD patients achieved complete remission

Although the survival rate of patients diagnosed with multiple myeloma has doubled over the last few decades, due to the introduction of new therapeutic lines and improvement of care, other potential contributors to the therapeutic response/relapse of disease, such as nutrient intake, along with nutrition knowledge, have not been assessed during the course of the disease. The purpose of this research was to assess nutrition knowledge and diet quality in a group of patients with a diagnosis of multiple myeloma. Anthropometric, clinical and biological assessments and skeletal survey evaluations, along with the assessment of nutritional intake and general nutrition knowledge, were performed on 61 patients with a current diagnosis of multiple myeloma.
