The aim of the study was to evaluate the prognostic value of the vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and hepatocyte growth factor receptor (HGFR, c-met) expressions in homogenous group of breast cancer patients. Tumor samples were collected from 98 patients with invasive ductal breast carcinoma stage II treated with primary surgery. We have observed a strong correlation between VEGF-A and c-met.

Unlabelled: The antigen of endothelial cell which are the exponent of microvessels density in cancer tumor as CD31, CD34 and CD105 are the most common analysed markers of angiogenesis. The aim of the work was to analyse the expression of CD31, CD34 and CD105 antigens--three basic markers of microvessel density in ovarian cancer.

Material And Methods: The material included 80 patients with ovarian carcinoma, treated between 1996 and 2001 in Department of Oncology Gynecology of Lower Silesian Centre of Oncology.

Objectives: The aim of the work was to assess vascular endothelial growth factor VEGF-C and vascular endothelial growth factor VEGF-D expression in ovarian carcinomas.

Material And Methods: Clinical records and preserved specimens from 80 patients with ovarian cacinoma who underwent treatment at Lower Silesia Centre of Oncology were examined consecutively.

Results: Most of analysed patients (n=53) had serous adenocarcinomas at III or IV FIGO stage.

The paper presents the case of a 58-year old male with low performance status (3 according to WHO) diagnosed with bone-disseminated, undifferentiated carcinoma of unknown primary origin in April 2001. The patient was given reduced dosage CAP chemotherapy (cisplatin 40 mg/m2, doxorubicin 40 mg/m2, cyclophosphamide 40 mg/m2, every 21 days). A total number of 12 treatment courses were administered, reaching summary admissible dosage of doxorubicin.

Background: The aim of the study was to describe the expressions of E-cadherin (EC) and fibronectin (FN) and their prognostic value in radically-treated ductal breast cancer.

Patients And Methods: Ninety-eight patients, aged 26-86 (median, 57) with stage II G2 or G3 tumors, were subjected to a retrospective analysis.

Results: No significant associations were observed between the levels of the proteins studied and patient or cancer features, with the exception of relationships between FN expression and the histological grade of the tumor or hormonal status of the subjects.

The aim of these studies was to examine the nephroprotective effect of melatonin following the anthracycline administration [daunorubicin (DNR); doxorubicin (DOX)] in rats. Application of these drugs in chemotherapy is limited because of their cardiotoxicity and nephrotoxicity. Rats of the Buffalo strain were divided into groups according to the cytostatic drug used, its dose and sequence of administration [DNR or DOX single (i.
