[The role of brain magnetic resonance studies in the diagnostics of central nervous system lesions in HIV-1 positive patients].

Unlabelled: Approximately 10% of persons infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and 75-90% patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) present neurological symptoms. This group causes the greatest diagnostic difficulties among AIDS patients. The purpose of the study was to demonstrate the usefulness of the magnetic resonance imaging (MR) of the central nervous system (CNS) in the diagnosis and differentiation of primary and secondary lesions.

[Megacalycosis as a diagnostic problem in children].

Megacalycosis is an uncommon, congenital renal abnormality, characterized by nonobstructive dilatation of the renal calyces with normal renal pelvis, ureter and bladder. This condition is due to underdevelopement or hypoplasia of Malpighie's pyramids. It usually occurs unilateraly as the isolated anomaly with strong male predominance.

Brain abscess as the first clinical manifestation of multiple pulmonary arteriovenous malformations in a patient with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (Rendu-Osler-Weber disease).

In this report we described a case of a cerebral abscess that developed in presence of asymptomatic pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) in a 53-year-old woman with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). The brain abscess was aspirated with good clinical result and the arteriovenous fistulae qualified for transcatheter embolotherapy. Each patient suspected to suffer from HHT should be diagnosed for the presence of visceral vascular malformations.
