The topical glucocorticoid budesonide has been prescribed before and after sinus lift surgery as adjuvant drug treatment for maxillary sinus membrane inflammation. However, there is no study on the effects of budesonide on the regenerative process of bone grafting biomaterials. We investigated the effect of the association of budesonide with some biomaterials on the growth and differentiation capacity of pre-osteoblastic cells (MC3T3-E1 subclone 4).

Objective: : The composition and morphology of the internal and external surfaces of membranes are important for preventing migration of epithelial and connective cells, and allow the installation of osteogenic cells for bone growth. The objective of this study was to analyze the morphology and composition of three types of commercially available resorbable collagen membranes.

Methods: Three types of collagen membranes, with different compositions and coming from different animals, were used: 1) Dental Surgidry F (bovine collagen type I); 2) Bio-Gide® (porcine collagen type I and III); and 3) OsseoGuard™ (bovine collagen type I).

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of hyaluronic acid (HA) in the structure and degradation patterns of BioGide and OsseoGuard™ collagen membranes. HA mediates inflammation and acts in cell migration, adhesion, and differentiation, benefitting tissue remodeling and vascularization. These are desirable effects in guided regeneration procedures, but it is still unknown whether HA alters the barrier properties of absorbable membranes.

Dental anatomy is quite complex and diverse factors must be taken into account in its analysis. Teeth with anatomical variations present an increase in the rate of severity periodontal tissue destruction and therefore a higher risk of developing periodontal disease. In this context, this paper reviews the literature regarding enamel pearls and their implications in the development of severe localized periodontal disease as well as in the prognosis of periodontal therapy.

The establishment of the subgingival microbiota is dependent on successive colonization of the implant surface by bacterial species. Different implant surface topographies could influence the bacterial adsorption and therefore jeopardize the implant survival. This study evaluated the biofilm formation capacity of five oral streptococci species on two titanium surface topographies.

Unlabelled: Some surface treatments performed on titanium can alter the composition of salivary pellicle formed on this abiotic surface. Such treatments modify the titanium's surface properties and can promote higher adsorption of proteins, which allow better integration of titanium to the biotic system.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the interactions between salivary proteins and titanium disks with different surface treatments.

This study assessed the use of orthodontic extrusion (OE) for biologic width reestablishment (BWR) and compared two protocols for BWR: periodontal flap surgery (FS) performed either before (FS + OE) or after (OE + FS) extrusion. Databases were screened up to March 2013 for studies on OE, and outcomes from 13 patients treated by OE + FS or FS + OE were assessed. The results of the literature showed that OE + fiberotomy led to a greater amount of root extrusion than OE alone.
