Article Synopsis

* Results showed significant variation in 30-day survival rates: 75% for those in shock without cardiac arrest, 43% for those with return of spontaneous circulation after arrest, and only 6% for those still undergoing CPR.
* Older age and pre-existing health conditions, such as hypertension, were linked to poorer survival chances, highlighting that patients without cardiac arrest had better outcomes overall.

Objective--Evaluation of the centrifugal pump vs roller pump concerning effects upon platelet function, hemolysis and clinical outcome in elective coronary artery bypass surgery. Design--Thirty-four patients were randomized to centrifugal or roller pump. Platelet activation was studied by flow cytometry before, during and up to 3 days after bypass.
