Outcomes following perinatal palliative care consultation: a retrospective review.

Objective: To inform clinical practice by describing a model of perinatal palliative care delivery within a fully staffed fetal health center (FHC) inside a freestanding children's hospital.

Study Design: The team conducted a retrospective chart review of the palliative care team (PaCT) database from FHC's inception in 2010 to 31 December, 2018, and surveyed the FHC neonatologists.

Results: PaCT consults in the FHC increased from 1 in 2010 to 102 in 2018.

Purpose: The current adult definition of sepsis and septic shock, as developed in 1992, does not adequately define sepsis in the pregnant and peripartum women due to the alteration of sepsis presentation in the maternal population. The purpose of this study was to determine potential causative factors for sepsis with the aim of prevention and reducing morbidity and mortality.

Hypothetical signal events are efficiently separated from the dominant top quark pair production background with requirements on the significance of the missing transverse momentum and on transverse mass variables.

Disability, communication, and life itself in the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this article we offer an analysis of a deeply problematic and troubling dual aspect of the COVID-19 pandemic: how disability is being understood within normative accounts of health and medicine to frame, interpret, and respond to its spread and implications; what are the terms of inclusion and exclusion in altered social life in the COVID crisis; and how people with disabilities fare. We find disturbing indications of disablism and oppressive biopolitics in the 'enforcing of normalcy' that frames and dominates COVID reconstruction of social life - a situation that we suggest needs urgent deciphering, critique, and intervention.

The 'family crisis' narrative is frequently used in dementia studies to explain ethnic minority families' pathways to health and aged care and why there is delayed dementia diagnoses in ethnic minority communities. Such narratives may obscure the family carers' agency in negotiating services and managing personal, social and structural burdens in the lead up to diagnosis. To illuminate agency, this article describes ethnic minority families' pathways to a dementia diagnosis using the concept of sense-making.

Background: Prolonged exposure to high oxygen concentrations in premature infants, although lifesaving, can induce lung oxidative stress and increase the risk of developing BPD, a form of chronic lung disease. The lung alveolar epithelium is damaged by sustained hyperoxia, causing oxidative stress and alveolar simplification; however, it is unclear what duration of exposure to hyperoxia negatively impacts cellular function.

Methods: Here we investigated the role of a very short exposure to hyperoxia (95% O, 5% CO) on mitochondrial function in cultured mouse lung epithelial cells and neonatal mice.

Expression Screening of Human Integral Membrane Proteins Using BacMam.

This chapter describes the step-by-step methods employed by the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) for screening and producing proteins in the BacMam system. This eukaryotic expression system was selected and a screening process established in 2016 to enable production of highly challenging human integral membrane proteins (IMPs), which are a significant component of our target list. Here, we discuss our recently developed platform for identifying expression and monodispersity of IMPs from 3 mL of HEK293 cells.
