Cardiac Imaging for Diagnosis and Management of Infective Endocarditis.

Imaging is central to the care of patients with infective endocarditis. Although transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography are the principal imaging techniques, additional modalities including positron emission tomography and cardiac computed tomography, and to a lesser extent intracardiac echocardiography, play an increasing role. This review discusses the role of cardiac imaging in establishing the diagnosis of endocarditis, in predicting its embolic risk, and in making decisions regarding the need for and timing of surgery.

Relation of Peripheral Venous Pressure to Central Venous Pressure in Patients With Heart Failure, Heart Transplant, and Left Ventricular Assist Device.

Peripheral venous pressure (PVP) monitoring is a noninvasive method to assess volume status. We investigated the correlation between PVP and central venous pressure (CVP) in heart failure (HF), heart transplant (HTx), and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) patients undergoing right heart catheterization (RHC). A prospective, cross-sectional study examining PVP in 100 patients from October 2018 to January 2020 was conducted.

Genetic Determinants of Nipple Aspiration Fluid Yield.

Purpose: Nipple aspiration fluid (NAF) is a non-invasively-acquired biosample that can provide a window into the breast environment, but NAF yield is highly variable. Its determinants must be better understood for studies of breast cancer risk. The wet earwax phenotype was identified as one determinant of NAF yield in the 1970s, and is linked to single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the ATP-binding cassette transporter gene ABCC11.
