Best practices for the pregnant neurosurgical resident: balancing safety and education.

Establishment of a diverse neurosurgical workforce includes increasing the recruitment of women in neurosurgery. The impact of pregnancy on the training and career trajectory of female neurosurgeons poses a barrier to recruitment and retention of women in neurosurgery. A recent Women in Neurosurgery survey evaluated female neurosurgeons' perception and experience regarding childbearing of female neurosurgeons and identified several recommendations regarding family leave policies.

Development of Tissue Engineered Heart Valves for Percutaneous Transcatheter Delivery in a Fetal Ovine Model.

This multidisciplinary work shows the feasibility of replacing the fetal pulmonary valve with a percutaneous, transcatheter, fully biodegradable tissue-engineered heart valve (TEHV), which was studied in vitro through accelerated degradation, mechanical, and hemodynamic testing and in vivo by implantation into a fetal lamb. The TEHV exhibited only trivial stenosis and regurgitation in vitro and no stenosis in vivo by echocardiogram. Following implantation, the fetus matured and was delivered at term.

Preterm delivery in triplet pregnancies.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the rate of spontaneous preterm birth (SPTB) versus indicated preterm birth (IPTB) in triplet pregnancies and determine factors associated with these outcomes.

Materials And Methods: This is a review of triplet pregnancies delivering at our institution from 2003 to 2015. Patients delivering prior to 24 weeks gestational age (GA) were excluded.

Impact of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Objective: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use has the potential to adversely affect blood pressure in women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. We sought to evaluate this association.

Study Design: Women affected with severe hypertensive disorders of pregnancy were identified by retrospective chart review.
