Midwives' readiness for midwife-led care: a mixed-methods study.

Background/problem: To integrate midwife-led care in Belgian maternity services, understanding whether midwives are primed of executing the change is needed.

Aim: To explore Belgian midwives' readiness for midwife-led care and understand the underlying processes.

Methods: A mixed-methods sequential study: 1) A survey including 414 practising midwives and 2) individual interviews with 12 (student) midwives.

What influences women's experiences of childbirth in Flanders? - A quantitative cross-sectional analysis of the Babies Born Better survey.

Objective: Labour and birth experiences are of great importance since these can have positive, but also negative effects on women's health and wellbeing. This is the first study, which investigated the factors that influence women's experiences of childbirth in Flanders, Belgium.

Design: A cross-sectional quantitative analysis was used to examine primary data obtained by the Babies Born Better project.

What are the strategies for implementing primary care models in maternity? A systematic review on midwifery units.

Background: Midwifery Units (MUs) are associated with optimal perinatal outcomes, improved service users' and professionals' satisfaction as well as being the most cost-effective option. However, they still do not represent the mainstream option of maternity care in many countries. Understanding effective strategies to integrate this model of care into maternity services could support and inform the MU implementation process that many countries and regions still need to approach.
