The wettability of subsurface minerals is a critical factor influencing the pore-scale displacement of fluids in underground reservoirs. As such, it plays a key role in hydrocarbon production and greenhouse gas geo-sequestration. We present a comprehensive and critical review of the current state of knowledge on the intermolecular forces governing wettability of rock minerals most relevant to subsurface fluid storage and recovery.

The in situ change in oil flow behavior inside propped fractures due to wettability alteration of proppant grains and fracture surfaces was thoroughly investigated for the first time in this study. A series of microscale flow experiments were performed in mixed-wet fractured and propped miniature ultra-tight carbonate cores where the effect of wettability on oil bridging and fracture oil layer integrity was probed during oil production. During the initial production, proppant wettability changed toward an intermediate-wet state (contact angle (CA) = 96°) while that of fracture surfaces became strongly oil-wet (CA = 139°).

Objectives: To evaluate strategies for increasing the axial stiffness of a hybrid external bone fixator.

Materials And Methods: Type Ia hybrid fixators, consisting of a uniplanar linear component connected to a circular ring, were tested in displacement controlled loading in axial compression. The basic hybrid construct was modified to explore strategies considered to increase fixator stiffness including: decreasing ring diameter, increasing ring thickness, adding pins to the ring fixation, and adding struts between the ring and vertical post components of the device.

Four analgesic agents were studied during labour: pethidinesparine, ketamine hydrochloride, nitrous oxide-oxygen, and trichloroethylene in air (Trilene). Excellent analgesia was achieved with ketamine, however hallucinations were troublesome. Trichloroethylene analgesia was good without side-effects.

The serum levels of lysozyme, serum electrophoresis, and serum immunoglobulins were determined prospectively in 101 patients with ulcerative colitis, ulcerative proctitis, Crohn's disease, or nonclassifiable nonspecific inflammatory bowel disease. Although the mean serum lysozyme concentration of patients with Crohn's disease (10.5 +/- 6.
