Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates DNA methylation profiles of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), celiac disease (CeD), and healthy controls (HC) to develop classifiers that can distinguish these GI disorders.
  • Researchers analyzed blood samples from 315 participants and found significant differences in DNA methylation between disorders, especially between IBS & IBD and IBD & CeD.
  • The classification models showed promising accuracy (AUC values ranging from 0.73 to 0.80), suggesting that blood-based DNA methylation biomarkers might effectively differentiate between these chronic gastrointestinal conditions.

Danon disease (DD) is a rare X-linked autophagic vacuolar myopathy associated with multiorgan dysfunction, including the heart, skeletal muscle, and liver. There are no specific treatments, and most male patients die from advanced heart failure during the second or third decade of life. DD is caused by mutations in the lysosomal-associated membrane protein 2 () gene, a key mediator of autophagy.
