The therapeutic potential of short interfering RNA (siRNA) to treat many diseases that are incurable with traditional preparations is limited by the extensive metabolism of serum nucleases, low permeability through biological membrane barriers because of a negative charge, and endosomal trapping. Effective delivery vectors are required to overcome these challenges without causing unwanted side effects. Here, we present a relatively simple synthetic protocol to obtain positively charged gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with narrow size distribution and the surface modified with Tat-related cell-penetrating peptide.

This paper reports the results of analysis of the metoprolol succinate tablets fabricated by two different manufacturers, Akrikhin (Russia) and AstraZeneka (Sweden) by near-IR spectroscopy in the combination with the chemometric processing of the data obtained (discriminative analysis). It is concluded that this method is applicable for the assessment of interlot dispersion of the metoprolol succinate tablets.

This paper was designed to report the results of analysis of metoprolol succinate substance and tablets obtained from two manufacturers, Akrikhin (Russia) and AstraZeneca (Sweden). The analysis was performed by spectroscopy in the near IR region and followed by the chemometric treatment of the data obtained. The method was used to confirm the "identity" of metoprolol succinate tablets.

An enzymatic transglycosylation of purine heterocyclic bases employing readily available natural nucleosides or sugar-modified nucleosides as donors of the pentofuranose fragment and recombinant nucleoside phosphorylases as biocatalysts has been investigated. An efficient enzymatic method is suggested for the synthesis of purine nucleosides containing diverse substituents at the C6 and C2 carbon atoms. The glycosylation of N(6)-benzoyladenine and N(2)-acetylguanine and its O(6)-derivatives is not accompanied by deacylation of bases.

Indirect measurements of the ejection fraction by using an intra-aortic pump-balloon allow the simultaneous assessment of myocardium contractility force and rate. They improve the qualitative evaluation of the cardiac muscle state. Errors in detecting the ejection fraction with the above technique do not exceed 10% when using a specially designed electric driver.

Alterations in concentration of free fatty acids, free cholesterol, native antioxidants as well as in the antioxidative activity were studied in lipids of mice liver tissue and small intestinal mucosa. The intensity of free radical reactions in lipids of animal tissues was affected directly by administration of synthetic inhibitors of the reactions. The inverse correlation was observed between the alteration in concentrations of native antioxidants and free fatty acids as well as between the antioxidative activity of lipids and amount of free cholesterol in them.
