Celiac plexus block in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors.

Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs), an uncommon finding, are distinct from pancreatic carcinomas. When pNETs are unresectable and progressive, visceral pain often presents and is challenging to treat. Opioids commonly used for pain control are difficult to implement in this setting because of adverse side effects such as constipation.

Pancreatic cancer: a review and update.

Pancreatic cancer will account for about 6% of all cancer-related deaths in 2008. Patients often present with advanced disease, so treatment remains a challenge. This article will review the risk factors, pathology features, clinical symptoms, diagnosis and staging guidelines, treatment, and nursing implications of pancreatic cancer.

TAF1 histone acetyltransferase activity in Sp1 activation of the cyclin D1 promoter.

A missense mutation within the histone acetyltransferase (HAT) domain of the TATA binding protein-associated factor TAF1 induces ts13 cells to undergo a late G(1) arrest and decreases cyclin D1 transcription. We have found that TAF1 mutants (Delta844-850 and Delta848-850, from which amino acids 844 through 850 and 848 through 850 have been deleted, respectively) deficient in HAT activity are unable to complement the ts13 defect in cell proliferation and cyclin D1 transcription. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assays revealed that histone H3 acetylation was reduced at the cyclin D1 promoter but not the c-fos promoter upon inactivation of TAF1 in ts13 cells.

Determination of serum organic acids in puppies with naturally acquired parvoviral enteritis.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the acid-base status and the serum concentration of organic acids in puppies with naturally occurring canine parvoviral enteritis. Between July 1999 and July 2000, 25 client-owned puppies admitted to the St. Louis Animal Emergency Clinic South for treatment of enteritis caused by parvovirus infection were used in our study.
