"There was No Opportunity to Express Good or Bad": Perspectives From Patient Focus Groups on Patient Experience in Clinical Trials.

To understand how patients perceive their experiences leading up to, during, and after a clinical trial, and the relationship these experiences had with future willingness to participate, we conducted 3 focus groups with patients who had prior clinical trial involvement (n  =  25). Discussion topics included clinical trial discovery, enrollment, communication, trust, patient-centricity, and future enrollment. Patient focus groups revealed a variety of motivations for enrolling in clinical trials (eg, altruism, efficacious treatment, curiosity, desperation, etc.

The Eight Limbs of Yoga can be Maintained in a Veteran Friendly Yoga Program.

Background: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may occur after a traumatic event and has deleterious effects on individuals, including decreased quality of life and function. Yoga is an intervention that may help with the management of PTSD symptoms, however yoga interventions in research studies frequently only include postures and breathwork, not all eight limbs of yoga.

Aims And Objectives: The aims of this qualitative study was to examine whether participants with PTSD in a group yoga program discussed the benefits of yoga in a way that represented the eight limbs of yoga, when answering questions about their experience of the yoga program.

Psychometric Testing of a Measure of Patient Experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Setting.

The purpose of this research was to develop a psychometrically sound survey for use with the Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Services (OAS CAHPS) survey. Both an exploratory pilot and a confirmatory pilot were conducted in hospital outpatient departments and freestanding ambulatory surgery centers eligible for participation in the OAS CAHPS program. Analyses indicated an internally consistent and valid 18-item survey with 6 measures, including Access, Moving Through the Visit, Nurses, Anesthesiologist, Doctor, and Coordinated Care.

A Pilot Study of the Perceptions of Actively Practicing Obstetricians in Puerto Rico: Factors that Influence Decision Making in Cesarean Delivery.

Objective: The reported cesarean delivery (CD) rate for 2012 in Puerto Rico was higher than that of the United States (48.5% and 32.8%, respectively).

Comorbid Chronic Pain and Depression: Patient Perspectives on Empathy.

Clinician empathy is a well-documented component of effective patient/provider communication. Evidence surrounding the association between patient perspectives on clinician empathy and perception of pain management is currently limited, particularly among patients with chronic pain and depression. The aim of this study was to analyze patients' perspectives on the emergent theme of empathy and describe how patients construct their experiences and expectations surrounding empathic interactions.

Today's healthcare workforce is faced with the availability of massive amounts of patient- and disease-related data.
