The aim of this study was to determine the rate of a sustained virological response (SVR) and various factors associated with response rates in chronic hepatitis C infected patients treated with peg interferon alpha (PEG-INF) and ribavirin (RBV) combination therapy.
Methods: A total of 34 patients, treated with PEG-IFN and RBV were studied.
Aim: To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of human brucellosis in Serbia from 1980 to 2008 and the most important factors affecting its emergence and spread.
Methods: Public sources of data on brucellosis were used, including official reports of infectious diseases and epidemics, as well as monthly and annual reports of the Serbia and Vojvodina Institutes of Public Health.
Results: From 1980 through 2008, there were 1521 human brucellosis cases in Serbia.
Anti-A/B depletion efficacy and clinical outcome for 22 ABO-incompatible kidney transplants were investigated. Case Report: In May 2005, a computerized tomography of the abdomen obtained in a 27-year-old female patient with abdominal pain revealed more than 20 echinococcal cysts measuring up to 6.7 cm in both lobes of the liver.
Aim: To evaluate the clinical characteristics of splenic marginal-zone lymphoma (SMZL) following antigen expression and the influence of therapeutic approaches on clinical outcome and overall survival (OS).
Methods: A total of 30 patients with typical histological and immunohistochemical SMZL patterns were examined. Splenectomy plus chemotherapy was applied in 20 patients, while splenectomy as a single treatment-option was performed in 10 patients.
Background/aim: Modern treatment of cystic echinococcosis, except for surgical treatment and percutaneous drainage of cyst considers also administration of albendazole as a type of individual therapy. However, clinicians fear of the serious adverse effects of high doses of albendazole, first of all the elevation of serum transaminases activity, very frequently results in subdosing of albendazole and wrong conclusions its efficacy and safety.
