Hyperboreomyzon polaris Bolotov, Eliseeva, Klass & Kondakov, 2022 (Hirudinea: Glossiphoniidae) is an enigmatic freshwater leech that was recently described based on three specimens from two remote regions of the Eurasian Arctic, that is, the Kolguev Island and Putorana Plateau, Russia. Later on, misidentified historical samples of this species were discovered in the Hirudinea collection of Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg, Russia).

Relevance: Nasal congestion is one of the most common complaints in otolaryngology practice and can significantly impact the quality of life for patients. Objective and subjective assessments provide different information, but objective assessment of nasal obstruction is crucial for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. This review demonstrates that peak nasal inspiratory flow (PNIF) is a reproducible and reliable measure of objective nasal patency.

Preschool children's harmonious development, cognitive and communicative abilities are enhanced through physical activities in sports, yet sports training and competition pose a risk of injury to children aged three to seven years due to their physiological and psychological features. Although sports injuries in preschool children are not common, they can be undesirable and unavoidable, and fortunately, these injuries are usually reversible. This review article presents data on the physiological features of the developing musculoskeletal system and its relationship to sports injuries in children, which together determine the nature of children's sports injuries.

We performed a comparative study of the parameters of chemiluminescence of blood neutrophils in patients with different severity of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in its different periods. The maximum values of induced and spontaneous chemiluminescence were recorded at moderate severity of the disease during exacerbation. Low levels of chemiluminescence indicators were found in severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the stable phase.

The features of organic fouling have been revealed for highly basic anion exchange membranes during prolonged electrodialysis in solutions containing the aromatic amino acid tyrosine. With increased operation time when using MA-41 heterogeneous membranes in tyrosine solution, an increase in hydrophobicity and roughness characteristics of the material surface is detected. A reduction in tyrosine flux through the membrane occurs which is caused by its pores plugging and deposition of the amino acid at the membrane surface induced by tyrosine adsorption and local supersaturation of the solution in the membrane phase.

The course of bronchial asthma can be accompanied by cognitive impairments. However, the relationship between cognitive dysfunction and asthma has not been fully revealed, nor has it been fully established what causes cognitive impairments in patients with asthma. There is an opinion that transient hypoxia and persistent systemic inflammation with insufficient control of bronchial asthma can be accompanied by neurotoxicity in relation to the hippocampus and indirectly lead to deterioration of cognitive functions.

The alterations in current-voltage and transport characteristics of highly basic and strongly acidic ion-exchange membranes, during the electrodialysis of solutions containing a heterocyclic amino acid and a strong electrolyte, were studied. An increase in the catalytic activity of the water splitting process at the surface of heterogeneous MK-40 and MA-41 membranes upon prolonged contact with proline and tryptophan solutions was found. A significant effect of electroconvection on the components mass transfer through the cation-exchange membrane in the intensive current mode of electrodialysis was revealed for the solution containing a heterocyclic amino acid along with mineral salt (NaCl).

The family Glossiphoniidae is a diverse and widespread clade of freshwater leeches, playing a significant role in functioning of aquatic ecosystems. The taxonomy and biogeography of leeches from temperate, subtropical, and tropical regions attracted much attention of zoologists, while their taxonomic richness and distribution in the Arctic are poorly understood. Here, we present an overview of the Eurasian Arctic Glossiphoniidae based on the most comprehensive occurrence and DNA sequence datasets sampled to date.

The study objective to investigate hematological parameters and determine the relationships between these indicators and body composition in centenarians with coronary artery disease. This work is a cross-sectional study, which enrolled 239 patients over 90 years old hospitalized with a diagnosis of coronary artery disease; most of them (67,8%) were women. The age of the patients ranged from 90 to 106 years, averaging 92,8 (±2,5) years.

In patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the levels of cytokines IL-1β, IL-4, IL-8, TNFα, and IFNγ depended on the degree of bronchial obstruction and severity and period of the disease. The maximum levels of IL-4, IL-8, and TNFα were observed in severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease during exacerbation. The highest concentration of IL-1β and IFNγ were recorded during activation of inflammation in patients with moderate bronchial obstruction.

This article's main focus is to highlight significant aspects of amino acid solution demineralization. The main part of the amino acid production method requires the provision of downstream treatment solutions for the process of desalination. Electrodialysis (ED) and electrodeionization (EDI) are prospective technologies for such treatment.

The study objective was to compare the CKD-EPI, MDRD, BIS1, and Cockroft-Gault equations for calculating GFR, and analyze the various relationships between the glomerular filtration rate and clinical and laboratory parameters in long-living patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). A cross-sectional study of 270 patients from 90 to 106 years old, hospitalized with CAD diagnosis, was performed. The mean estimated GFR according to CKD-EPI was 51,4±14,2 ml/min, MDRD - 50,9±13,4, BIS1 - 38,4±7,7, Cockroft-Gault - 40,6±12,6 ml/min.

Surveillance screening at scale to identify people infected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) prior to extensive transmission is key to bringing an end to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, even though vaccinations have already begun. Here we describe Corona Detective, a sensitive and rapid molecular test to detect the virus, based on loop-mediated isothermal amplification, which could be applied anywhere at low cost. Critically, the method uses freeze-dried reagents, readily shipped without cold-chain dependence.

Studying the features of changes in markers of oxidative stress (OS) and inflammation indicators in COPD patients depending on the degree of bronchial obstruction is one of the priority directions for improving the prognosis and monitoring of the course of this pathology. We conducted a comparative investigation of changes in markers of OS and apoptosis at the systemic and local levels in patients with moderate to severe COPD during exacerbation and stable phase. 105 patients with COPD aged 46-67 and 21 healthy nonsmoking volunteers comparable in age were examined.

Discoveries of new Hemiclepsis species (Hirudinea: Glossiphoniidae) in East and Southeast Asia were expected. A peculiar freshwater leech was found on the body surface of Asian Swamp Eel Monopterus albus (Synbranchiformes: Synbranchidae) in Jingzhou, Hubei Province, China. Here, we describe this leech species as Hemiclepsis yangtzenensis sp.

The results of a study of the concentration of TNF-α as well as the relationship of this cytokine with a number of pathological conditions in very elderly patients with coronary artery disease compared with the control group of patients without CAD are presented in the article. The average group concentration of TNF-α reached 9,2+4,7 pg/ml (from 3,9 to 31,9 pg/ml) with normal TNF-α values of less than 8,1 pg/ml. An increase in the level of TNF-α was detected in 54,6% of patients.

Uncontrolled asthma (BA) can be complicated by cardiac conduction disturbances and arrhythmias. It is typical mainly for adult asthmatics patients. In asthmatics children the effect of bronchoconstriction on cardiac conduction, including the supraventricular component of the ECG, is currently under discussion.
