Sepsis-associated encephalopathy, which manifests in severe cognitive and depressive symptoms, is directly linked to neuroinflammation. Our study investigates the efficacy of 25H-NBOMe, a phenethylamine, in alleviating these symptoms, potentially offering an innovative treatment for post-sepsis depression. Wistar rats, weighing between 250-300 g, were subjected to cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) surgery to induce sepsis.

Article Synopsis
  • Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) causes inflammation, leading to behavioral changes and fever in male Wistar rats, which were used for this study.
  • The research aimed to see if curcumin could prevent these effects by affecting the Nrf2 pathway, with rats receiving either LPS or curcumin beforehand.
  • Results showed that curcumin treatment reduced LPS-induced sickness behavior and fever, likely by enhancing Nrf2 movement into the nucleus and lowering cytokine levels.
