Background: Despite improved awareness of blunt traumatic hollow viscus and mesenteric injuries (THVMI), the accuracy of contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) varies considerably among studies. This systematic review and meta-analysis of test accuracy aims to explore the diagnostic performance of CECT in detecting THVMI in blunt trauma.
Methods: The study was conducted according to the Cochrane recommendations searching the PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library datasets from 2000 to 8 September 2023 (PROSPERO ID: CRD42023473041).
Electric scooter (ES)-related injuries are increasing but poorly described. Clinicians need more information to be prepared for these patients. We supposed two prevalent patterns of patients: mildly injured (predominant upper-limb injuries) and severely injured (predominant head trauma).

This study aims to provide a comprehensive description of the presence and organization of trauma teams in Italy. A nationwide cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted between July and October 2022, involving interviews with 137 designated trauma centers.

Methods: Mobile optical gas imagers (both a miniaturised Schlieren system and sensitive tripod-mounted near-infrared carbon dioxide camera (GF343, FLIR)) prospectively defined trocar-related gas leaks occurring either spontaneously or with instrumentation during planned laparoscopic surgery at three hospitals.
A Morgagni hernia is a congenital diaphragmatic hernia that is rarely diagnosed in adults, and the technique for its repair has not yet been standardized. This review will give an overview of the different laparoscopic methods reported by other authors, highlighting the key points indicating a good repair to help standardize the technique. A systematic review of the available articles on PubMed was conducted according to PRISMA 2020 by two authors independently in May 2022.

Acute appendicitis (AA) is one of the most frequent diseases and its management is dictated by published international clinical practice guidelines (CPG). Adherence to CPG has been reported as heterogeneous.

CEUS is not widely used worldwide, despite its accuracy and feasibility in identifying parenchymal and vascular lesions. This survey aims to define the current use of CEUS in Trauma Centers and the expectations of Emergency Surgeons regarding its role.

However, post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) still represents a non-negligible postoperative complication, embodying the most frequent cause of hepatic-related mortality. In the absence of a specific treatment, the most effective way to deal with PHLF is its prevention through a careful preoperative assessment of future liver remnant (FLR) volume and function.

Several studies have shown the feasibility of advanced endoscopic procedures under deep sedation (DS) without impacting patient outcomes or adverse event rates. Our goal was to perform an initial comparative analysis of ESG in DS with ESG under OTI.

Methods: Six pigs were enrolled.
: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is one of the most performed surgeries worldwide. Procedure difficulty and patient outcomes depend on several factors which are not considered in the current literature, including the learning curve, generating confusing and subjective results. This study aims to create a scoring system to calculate the learning curve of LC based on hepatobiliopancreatic (HPB) experts' opinions during an educational course.

Post-traumatic pseudoaneurysms (PAs) can develop at any region of an injured artery and they may cause delayed bleeding in splenic or hepatic trauma, with an incidence in patients treated with NOM of 2%-27% and 1.2%-6.

To date, only a few studies investigated the predictors of the need for ventilatory support. Data on 1080 patients with chest trauma managed in two different centers were retrospectively analyzed.

This study investigates the outcome of bicycle-related trauma in our level-one trauma center over a period of eight years. Methods: Data from 446 consecutive bicycle-related trauma patients admitted to our trauma center from 2011 to 2019 were selected and retrospectively analyzed.

Methods: We analysed data from a two-year data lock on the Resident-1 multicentre registry. The operator classified each procedure following a five-grade Likert scale to define technical difficulty.

Aims: Laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) for acute appendicitis (AA) is one of the most performed procedures. The effects of peritoneal lavage (PL) and the reasons to perform it have not been cleared and all meta-analyses didn't show a statistical advantage to prevent infectious complications. This study aims to investigate surgeons' perceptions during LA, comparing intraoperative findings with histological results, and exploring how surgeons' subjectivity influences the decision-making process on PL.

The main treatment strategies are surgical debridement, broad-spectrum antibiotics, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, NPWT (Negative Pressure Wound Therapy), and plastic surgery reconstruction. We present the case of a 50-year-old woman with an NSTI of the abdomen, pelvis, and perineal region associated with a rectal fistula referred to our department.

This study aims to analyze how the centralization of trauma is linked with liver allocation in Northern Italy.
Methods: Cluster analysis was performed to generate patient phenotype according to trauma-related variables.
Background: Traumatic diaphragmatic injuries (TDI) are wounds or ruptures of the diaphragm due to thoraco-abdominal trauma. Nowadays, CT-scan is considered the gold standard for TDI diagnosis. The aim of this study was to assess the current diagnostic accuracy of CT-scan in the diagnosis of TDI and describe the management of this type of injury.

Diverticular disease (DD) is one of the most common disorders in western countries. In the last years, different articles have suggested a possible role of the intestinal microbiome in DD pathogenesis and in the development of acute diverticulitis (AD).
