In this work, we report the discovery and characterization of Garey24, a bacteriophage that forms medium-size plaques with halo rings isolated from a soil sample in Funes, Argentina. Its 41,522 bp circularly permuted genome contains 63 putative protein-coding genes. Based on gene content similarity, Garey24 was assigned to subcluster EA1.

Purpose: Paclitaxel albumin (nab-paclitaxel) is a nanoparticle albumin-bound paclitaxel formulation aimed at increasing therapeutic index in metastatic breast cancer. When compared to conventional paclitaxel, nab-paclitaxel has a reported longer time to progression, higher response, lower incidence of neutropenia, no need for premedication, shorter time of administration, and in pretreated metastatic breast cancer patients, extended overall survival. This study investigates the cost-effectiveness of nab-paclitaxel versus conventional paclitaxel for pretreated metastatic breast cancer patients in Italy.

Background: The recent introduction of drug-eluting stents (DES) has shown, in randomized controlled trials, to reduce the incidence of restenosis as compared to bare metal stents (BMS). Since their cost is considerably higher than that of BMS, the study assessed the economic impact of the adoption of this new therapy in the Sicilian clinical practice.

Methods: An economic evaluation was carried out by means of a linear decision model developed in Excel that simulated and compared costs and clinical pathway, within 1 year of the intervention, of hypothetical groups of patients with de novo lesions undergoing angioplasty with DES or BMS.
