The evaluation of a novel medium-polarity ionic-liquid-based gas chromatography column, SLB-IL60, towards the analysis of a complex essential oil, namely, a peppermint essential oil sample, is reported. The SLB-IL60 30 m column was subjected to bleeding measurements, by means of conventional gas chromatography with mass spectrometry. The SLB-IL60 column was then evaluated in the analysis of pure standard compounds, chosen as typical constituents of peppermint essential oil.

It has been used in folk medicine for its antispasmodic, anti-pyretic, anti-inflammatory, and abortifacient properties. In the current study, the application of multidimensional comprehensive gas chromatography (GC×GC), allowed to obtain a detailed fingerprint of the essential oil from A.

In this work, for the first time, two different multidimensional approaches were developed and compared, in terms of peak capacity, for triacylglycerol characterization.

Not much is reported in the literature about wild species of the Mediterranean flora, although many of them are traditionally collected for human consumption. The knowledge of their chemical constituents could represent a valid tool for both taxonomic and physiological characterizations.

More specifically, three different sample preparation methodologies were adopted: Folch's, Bligh & Dyer's and maceration. The lipidic extracts, after application of two different methylation procedures, were subjected to monodimensional and comprehensive two-dimensional GC analyses, in order to compare the fingerprints of samples derived from different extraction and transesterification methodologies.
