The Definition of Informatics Competencies in Finnish Healthcare and Social Welfare Education.

Finland is a world leader in the use of public electronic services. Continuous improvement to competencies is a prerequisite for the success of digitalisation in the service development sector. The increasing use of information technology in health and social care needs to be taken into account in the education of the health and social care sector work force.

Factors Related to Health Informatics Competencies for Nurses-Results of a National Electronic Health Record Survey.

In 2015, the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health published an eHealth and eSocial strategy with key objectives that by 2020 health information systems will be smart and providers will be able to maximize their use. Measures include improving system usability and decision support, involving professionals in system and service development, and increasing professionals' training in information management, electronic documentation, data protection, and data security. The aim of this study was to explore the level of nurses' informatics competencies and sufficiency of in-house training regarding technology-induced changes in work practices.

Health Professionals' Expanding eHealth Competences for Supporting Patients' Self-Management.

An increasing number of new eHealth services that support patients' self-management has changed health professionals' work and has created a need for a new eHealth competence. In this study, we evaluated the health professionals' eHealth competences and training needs in a public health organization in Finland. The target organization's goal was to increase the number of eHealth services provided to patients, and health professionals and their competences were seen as critical for the adoption of services.

Developing Digital Health and Welfare Services in an International Multidisciplinary Student Team.

The rapid growth of digital health and welfare services demands new competences for health and social care, information technology, and business professionals. This study aims to describe the competences that students have before their studies and those they expect to gain from the study module "Developing Digital Health and Welfare Services" in multiprofessional groups during their bachelor studies. This study reports open-ended questions about students' knowledge concerning digital health prior to the study units.

Curricula Challenges and Informatics Competencies for Nurse Educators.

Nursing informatics competencies are fundamental to nursing practice in all areas of nursing work, including direct patient care, administration and education. The recent activity relating to the development of nursing informatics competencies for beginning level nurses has exposed a paucity of understanding of the requirements for nursing informatics competencies for nurse educators. So, whilst the challenge of educating faculty to teach informatics has been limited, research into such competencies is required to meet this challenge.

Developing Customer Oriented eHealth Services to High Schools in City of Espoo.

The purpose of this research was to study the hopes and needs of high school first grade students and student healthcare nurses about development of eServices for student healthcare mainly by improving existing ITC solutions and planning new eHealth services. The secondary purpose was to innovate how to share general knowledge about health to students. Four (n=4) high school nurses were group interviewed and an electronic questionnaire was made for high school first grade students.

Impacts of structuring nursing records: a systematic review.

Aim: The study aims to describe the impacts of different data structuring methods used in nursing records or care plans. This systematic review examines what kinds of structuring methods have been evaluated and the effects of data structures on healthcare input, processes and outcomes in previous studies.

Materials And Methods: Retrieval from 15 databases yielded 143 papers.

Developing nurse educators' computer skills towards proficiency in nursing informatics.

The purpose of this paper is to assess nurse educators' competence development in nursing informatics (NI) and to compare their competence to the NI competence of other healthcare professionals. Electronic health records (EHR) have been in use for many years. However, the adoption of the nursing care plan finally made it possible for nurses in Finland to develop a model for structured documentation with nursing terminology.

Nursing informatics competences still challenging nurse educators.

In recent years nursing documentation has been one of the most important development areas of nursing informatics (NI) in Finland. The purpose of this study is to describe the development of the nurse educators' competences in nursing documentation during a project called eNNI. The eNNI project (2008-2010) was a cooperative project by nurse educators and working life experts.

The law of electronic patient' documentation came into operation in Finland in June 2007. The law obligates organizations of health care to connect with national information service system before 2011. According to definitions electronic patient record should be uniform and structured.
