We propose a time-delayed model for the study of active mode-locking that is valid for large values of the round trip gain and losses. It allows us to access the typical regimes encountered in semiconductor lasers and to perform an extended bifurcation analysis. Close to the harmonic resonances and to the lasing threshold, we recover the Hermite-Gauss solutions.

Uveal melanoma (UM) is genetically a distinct tumor compared to cutaneous melanoma (CM), and due to its low mutational burden, it is far less perceptible to the immune system. Thus, treatments that have revolutionized the treatment of CM remain widely inefficient in metastatic UM or only demonstrate effectiveness in a small subpopulation of patients. To this end, the therapeutic benefit of immune checkpoint blockade is very limited and may come at the expense of severe immune-related adverse events that could potentially affect all organ systems.

Background: Tumor-associated antigens and their derived peptides constitute an opportunity to design off-the-shelf mainline or adjuvant anti-cancer immunotherapies for a broad array of patients. We study theoretically the mechanisms of square wave formation of a vertically emitting micro-cavity operated in the Gires-Tournois regime that contains a Kerr medium and that is subjected to strong time-delayed optical feedback and detuned optical injection. We show that in the limit of large delay, square wave solutions of the time-delayed system can be treated as relative homoclinic solutions of an equation with an advanced argument. Based on this, we use concepts of classical homoclinic bifurcation theory to study different types of square wave solutions.

Uveal melanoma (UM) is an orphan cancer despite being the most common eye tumor in adults. Patients often present to skin cancer centers for treatment of metastatic disease although there are significant genetic, biological, and clinical differences from cutaneous melanoma. The treatments most commonly used for metastatic UM are tebentafusp and combined immune checkpoint blockade, both of which yield low response rates and may be accompanied by high treatment costs and significant immune-related toxicities.

In this paper, we study the dynamics of a vertically emitting micro-cavity operated in the Gires-Tournois regime that contains a semiconductor quantum-well and that is subjected to strong time-delayed optical feedback and detuned optical injection. Using a first principle time-delay model for the optical response, we disclose sets of multistable dark and bright temporal localized states coexisting on their respective bistable homogeneous backgrounds. In the case of anti-resonant optical feedback, we identify square-waves with a period of twice the round-trip in the external cavity.

SARS-CoV-2, causing the lethal disease COVid-19, is a public health emergency in the 2020 global pandemic. The outbreak and fast spreading of SARS-CoV-2 have a high morbidity and mortality specifically in elder patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and organ transplanted patients with immunosuppressive therapy. Preliminary results support different treatments such as chloroquine and convalescent plasma infusion in severe cases, with good outcome.

Checkpoint inhibitors (CPI), such as anti-programmed death-1 and anti-cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4antibodies cause serious, rarely fatal immune-related adverse events (irAE) potentially in all organ systems. Neurological immune-related adverse events occur in 1%-5% of patients on CPI therapy and may present with dramatic clinical symptoms of the sensory organs. After exclusion of other causes, a high-dose treatment with corticosteroids is crucial for clinical outcome with lower risk of sequelae.
