Purpose: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive Burkitt lymphoma (BL) affects children in sub-Saharan Africa, but diagnosis via tissue biopsy is challenging. We explored a liquid biopsy approach using targeted next-generation sequencing to detect the -immunoglobulin (-Ig) translocation and EBV DNA, assessing its potential for minimally invasive BL diagnosis.

Consumption of a high-fat diet (HFD) has been suggested as a contributing factor behind increased intestinal permeability in obesity, leading to increased plasma levels of microbial endotoxins and, thereby, increased systemic inflammation. We and others have shown that HFD can induce jejunal expression of the ketogenic rate-limiting enzyme mitochondrial 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA synthase (HMGCS). HMGCS is activated via the free fatty acid binding nuclear receptor PPAR-α, and it is a key enzyme in ketone body synthesis that was earlier believed to be expressed exclusively in the liver.

For many applications that involve measuring ultrafast optical phenomena, the streak camera is the device of choice because of its excellent time resolution, its high sensitivity, the possibility to simultaneously measure lifetimes and spectra, and because it can capture the temporal dynamics in a single shot. Nevertheless, to obtain a good time resolution, often narrow slits have to be employed that restrict the image source area and, therefore, limit the light collection efficiency in the experiment. Background: Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome (SLOS) is an inherited disorder of cholesterol biosynthesis associated with congenital malformations, growth delay, intellectual disability and behavior problems. SLOS is caused by bi-allelic mutations in , which lead to reduced activity of 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase that catalyzes the last step in cholesterol biosynthesis. We experimentally demonstrate the generation of double terahertz (THz) pulses with tailored angular-dependent time delays from a nonlinear metasurface excited by a near-infrared femtosecond pulse. The tailored temporal properties of the generated pulses emerge from a direct mapping of the nonlinear spatial response of the metasurface to the emitted THz temporal profile. We utilize the Pancharatnam-Berry phase to implement symmetric and antisymmetric metasurface configurations and show that the emitted patterns present spatiotemporal "X-shaped" profiles after collimation by a parabolic mirror, with angular-dependent pulse delays corresponding to the intended design.

Allophycocyanins are phycobiliproteins that absorb red light and transfer the energy to the reaction centers of oxygenic photosynthesis in cyanobacteria and red algae. Recently, it was shown that some allophycocyanins absorb far-red light and that one subset of these allophycocyanins, comprising subunits from the ApcD4 and ApcB3 subfamilies (FRL-AP), form helical nanotubes. The lowest energy absorbance maximum of the oligomeric ApcD4-ApcB3 complexes occurs at 709 nm, which is unlike allophycocyanin (AP; ApcA-ApcB) and allophycocyanin B (AP-B; ApcD-ApcB) trimers that absorb maximally at ~ 650 nm and ~ 670 nm, respectively.

Background: Traumatic neuroma typically refers to a reactive process in the injured peripheral nerve, characterized by an excessive growth of axons, Schwann cells, and fibroblasts at the proximal end of the nerve after its interruption. The authors report a case of a traumatic neuroma in the cervical nerve root in a patient with no history of trauma.

Observations: The patient presented with sensation loss in the right-hand ulnar distribution, right flank around the T4-11 region, and right small toe along with motor power weakness over the right upper and lower extremity.
