The results of four prospective clinical trials testing intraperitoneal chemohyperthermia (IPCH) are reported. The first one aimed at determining the appropriate dose of heated (42 degrees C) intraperitoneal oxaliplatin following complete resection of peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) by studying its pharmacokinetics. The recommended dosage was set at 460 mg/m2 in 2 l/m2 of peritoneal instillation.

Animal signals can consist of multiple parts within or across sensory modalities (multi-component signals or multimodal signals). While recent work has focused on multimodal signals, the production, processing and evolution of multi-component signals has received considerably less attention. Here, using synchronous high-speed video and laser vibrometer recordings followed by experimental manipulations of putative sound-producing structures, we explored the mechanisms of seismic signal production in the courtship display of Schizocosa stridulans Stratton.

The present manuscript focus on new data regarding gastro-intestinal (GI) tumors (pancreas excluded). Two mains issues are discussed: advances in terms of the molecular basis of GI oncogenesis, and the data on molecular targeted agents for which the cost/efficacity balance needs to be addressed.

Objective: To analyse the causes of non resectability of peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) of non-appendiceal colorectal carcinomas, discovered only at the time of the laparotomy.

Summary Background Data: The combination of a maximal cytoreductive surgery (resecting tumor deposits > 1 mm in diameter) with intraperitoneal chemohyperthermia results in cure a significant number of patients. Complete resection of the PC is the determining factor of this time-consuming and resource-consuming therapy.

High-throughput "omic" technologies have allowed for a relatively rapid, yet comprehensive analysis of the global expression patterns within an organism in response to perturbations. In the current study, 9503 different tryptic peptides were identified with high confidence from capillary liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of 26 chemostat cultures of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 under various conditions. Using at least one distinctive and a total of two total peptide identifications per protein, we detected the expression of 758 conserved hypothetical proteins.

Aim: The aim of this study was to report the feasibility and efficiency of a new approach, called post-RF trans-metastasis hepatectomy (PRFTMH). This technique consists in using RF to first ablate an ill-located liver metastasis (LM) along the planned hepatectomy resection line, the only one possible for volumetric reasons, and then to perform the hepatectomy passing via this initially ablated LM.

Material And Methods: Twenty-one patients were treated with PRFTMH between January 2000 and May 2004.

We describe the application of LC-MS without the use of stable isotope labeling for differential quantitative proteomic analysis of whole cell lysates of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 cultured under aerobic and suboxic conditions. LC-MS/MS was used to initially identify peptide sequences, and LC-FTICR was used to confirm these identifications as well as measure relative peptide abundances. 2343 peptides covering 668 proteins were identified with high confidence and quantified.

Background: Curative trans-metastasis liver resection immediately following radiofrequency (RF) destruction is a new technique that enables the proposition of a curative approach to patients with bilateral, unresectable liver metastases (LM), when the only possible future hepatectomy plane passes through a LM. Firstly, the ill-sited LM, which is located in the only feasible future hepatectomy plane, is ablated using RF; the hepatectomy is then performed through this ablated LM.

Aim: The aim of this study is to report the feasibility and efficacy of this new approach, known as post-RF-trans-metastasis-hepatectomy (PRFTMH).

The permanent dissemination of circulating cancer cells from infiltrative cancers renders the notion of localized cancer obsolete. This raises the question of the role of treatments such as surgery which are localized in time and space. Moreover, it is now proven that surgery increases the number of circulating cancers cells and produces transient immunodepression which promotes cancer cell implantation.

Fetal malignancies that are capable of metastasizing to other fetal organs and the placenta are exceedingly rare. Fetal tumors are suspected on ultrasonography in the presence of structures of abnormal shape or size that are occasionally associated with polyhydramnios and hydrops. Most of the large abdominal masses detected antenatally are renal in origin, although adrenal tumors should also be kept in mind in their differential diagnosis.

Background: The presence of extrahepatic disease (EHD) is considered a contraindication to hepatectomy in patients with colorectal liver metastases. After resection, the prognosis is based more on the total number of resected metastases (located inside and outside the liver) than on the site of these metastases (only inside the liver or not).

Methods: A total of 308 patients with colorectal cancer underwent hepatectomy, and 84 (27%) also underwent resection of miscellaneous EHD.

Background: A complete cytoreductive surgery followed with an intraperitoneal chemohyperthermia (IPCH) is a new treatment allowing curing some patients with a peritoneal carcinomatosis. The cost of this treatment, evaluated in different countries, is high. In France, we do not have any cost evaluation of this therapy, and this state slows its diffusion in our country.
