Aims: To analyze and quantify the sociodemographic, behavioral, and clinical factors influencing the oral pain and eating difficulties reported by Spanish 35- to 44-year-old adults and more elderly people in the most recent Spanish National Oral Health Survey.

Methods: Pain and chewing difficulties were gathered in a Likert-scale format from a representative sample of the Spanish general population between the ages of 35 and 44 years (n = 540) and 65 to 74 years (n = 540). Risk factors were identified using bivariate analysis, after which the crude association between risk factors (sociodemographic, behavioral, and clinical) and outcome variables (pain and eating problems) was assessed by adjusted odds ratios, calculated by means of multivariate logistic regression.

Aim/objective: To define the basic oral health goals for Spain 2015 (children)/2020 (adults).

Methods: The Spanish Society of Epidemiology and Oral Public Health commissioned a six-member Expert Panel, which worked over the period 2006-2007 and reached consensus according to the EuropeAid Evaluation Guidelines. The Panel's work included three meetings and a presentation at the Society's annual conference in 2007.

Aim: The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate fluoride uptake in human enamel after use of commercially available toothpastes containing different fluoride compounds, or combinations of fluoride actives formulated into a single product, as a means of determining the efficiency of each formula for delivering caries preventing fluoride to demineralized (caries active) enamel.

Methods And Materials: Four test dentifrices and two controls were assessed and placed in groups as follows: Group 1: Lacer (Spain); Group 2: Positive control-USP Reference Standard 1100 ppm F; Group 3: Fluocaril Bi-Fluoré 250 (France); Group 4: Colgate Fluor Active (Denmark); Group 5: Elmex (France); and Group 6: A placebo (formulated the same as the USP Reference Standard toothpaste with the exception that it contained < 1 ppm F). Cores 3 mm in diameter were removed from erupted human enamel specimens (extracted by local oral surgeons for orthodontic reasons) and stored in 1% Thymol solution prior to use.

Tobacco use cessation (TUC) in dentistry is critical to reducing the effect of a major risk factor for both oral and systematic diseases. The effect of TUC interventions has been widely reported. The data show that the success of TUC without professional support is negligible but that behavioural and pharmacological interventions are effective.
