An ecological study aimed at analyzing homicide rates and actual bodily harm was conducted in Itaboraí, in the years 2010 to 2011. The entire municipality was used in the study covering critical and non-critical areas. The data came from the Information System for the Public Security Institute in Rio de Janeiro state.

It was geared to the monitoring and analysis for evaluating the performance of municipalities in addressing domestic violence and the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents. The following criteria were considered in the evaluation: validity, reliability, sensitivity, communication, social relevance and feasibility of obtaining data.
