Background: Secukinumab is a human monoclonal antibody immunoglobulin that neutralises interleukin (IL)-17A, and as such, is effective in the treatment of psoriasis. However, as IL-17A is essential in protection against fungal infections, patients treated with this drug may develop candidiasis. This report presents a case of atypical oral candidiasis occurring during targeted drug immunotherapy with an interleukin 17 (IL-17) inhibitor (secukinumab), with the aim of emphasisinge the necessity of periodical oral health assessment and monitoring.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, the etiologic agent of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the cause of the current pandemic, produces multiform manifestations throughout the body, causing indiscriminate damage to multiple organ systems, particularly the lungs, heart, brain, kidney, and vasculature. The aim of this review is to provide a new assessment of the data already available for COVID-19, exploring it as a transient molecular disease that causes negative regulation of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2, and consequently, deregulates the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, promoting important changes in the microcirculatory environment. Another goal of the article is to show how these microcirculatory changes may be responsible for the wide variety of injury mechanisms observed in different organs in this disease.

The Ki-67 labeling index is traditionally used to investigate tumor aggressiveness. However, no diagnostic or prognostic value has been associated to the heterogeneous pattern of nuclear positivity. The aims of this study were to develop a classification for the patterns of Ki-67-positive nuclei; to search scientific evidence for the Ki-67 expression and location throughout the cell cycle; and to develop a protocol to apply the classification of patterns of Ki-67-positive nuclei in squamous epithelium with different proliferative activities.

This study assessed the cell viability of the inoculation vehicle of BACCOR (a combination of sulfate-reducing bacteria plus a culture media for bacteria), a biopharmaceutical product under development for dental use as aid in fractured endodontic file removal from the root canal. Different culture media for bacteria were evaluated: modified Postgate E (MCP-E mod), Modified Postgate E without Agar-agar (MCP-E w/Ag), Postgate C with Agar-agar (MCP-C Ag) and Postgate C without Agar-agar (MCP-C w/Ag). Bisphosphonates have been the first-line treatment option for osteometabolic diseases, such as osteoporosis, hypercalcaemia in malignant bone diseases, and in bone metastasis. It is possible to observe a growing number of cases of osteonecrosis of the jaws in patients using this medication, called bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws. Oral cytopathology is a simple, non-invasive technique that could be used for early detection of oral premalignant and malignant lesions, but the effectiveness of this diagnostic approach remains controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and accuracy of cytopathology for diagnosing oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and the diagnostic concordance between cytopathological and histopathological diagnoses. Background: Geographic stomatitis is an uncommon oral lesion that presents similar clinical, histopathological and genetic features as those of psoriasis.
