[Ethics relevance in Brazilian medical journals].

Objective: To evaluate the Brazilian journals cited by the four CAPES medical areas, qualified as 'A' national or 'I' international, regarding the relevance given to ethics in the instructions for authors.

Methods: The instructions for authors of twenty Brazilian journals were studied and 36 types of ethical concerns were identified allowing the following categorization: I - Ethics in human research; II - Scientific integrity; III - Editorial policy.

Results: The results on Category I show that the most frequent instructions (50%) requires previous approval of the research by a institutional Ethics Committee (CEP), followed by indication on how to cite this approval in the body of the article (35%), plus presentation of a copy of the CEP approval (30%).

[Patient-physician relationship in Acre, Rio Branco, from the patient's point of view].

Background: The main objective of the present paper is to evaluate the satisfaction levels with the physician-patient relationship (PPR) practiced at a health care unit of Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil. Interviews were carried out right after patients' dismissal from the "Fundação Hospital Estadual do Acre".

Methods: Descriptive and analytical analyses were performed.

Admixture and relationships of the population of Jacobina, Bahia, Brazil.

As part of the Cornell-Bahia project on leishmaniasis, the people of Jacobina in the state of Bahia in northeastern Brazil were studied for five genetic polymorphisms: ABO blood groups, hemoglobin variants, PGM1, 6PGD, and adenylate kinase. A maximum likelihood method of calculation of frequency of genes for these traits indicates that the ancestry of the people is 45% African, 43% Portuguese, and 12% Brazilian Indian. This estimate is similar to previous estimates of admixture in the people of northeastern Brazil, except for more African and less Caucasian ancestry.
