Achievements, priorities and strategies in pediatric nephrology in Europe: need for unifying approaches or acceptance of differences?

Background: There is a lack of information on the current healthcare systems for children with kidney diseases across Europe. The aim of this study was to explore the different national approaches to the organization and delivery of pediatric nephrology services within Europe.

Methods: In 2020, the European society for Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN) conducted a cross-sectional survey to identify the existing pediatric nephrology healthcare systems in 48 European countries covering a population of more than 200 million children.

Impact of software-assisted structured reporting on radiology residents approaching prostate MRI.

Purpose: To evaluate the potential advantages of software-assisted structured reporting for radiology residents approaching multiparametric prostate MRI (mpMRI).

Methods: MpMRI scans from 100 patients, performed for prostate cancer (PCa) detection or staging, were anonymized, and reviewed by six second-year radiology residents without previous experience in prostate MRI, following 6 h of intensive training. Introduction: Urethrocutaneous fistula (UCF) is the most common complication after hypospadias repair, with an variable incidence of 2-35%, depending on defect type. Literature has focused on the comparison of different types of second layers, but there is still no consensus regarding the best tissue to adopt.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of eccentric exercise on exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) and inflammation on high-altitude-induced venous gas emboli (VGE). Subjects were exposed to an altitude of 24,000 ft. for 90 min, with either prior eccentric exercise (ECC) or no exercise (Control) 24 h before.

Method: Ten subjects performed a 15 min eccentric arm cycling protocol (cadence 49 ± 7 rpm, power absorbed 248 ± 34 W).

Identification of KIFC1 as a putative vulnerability in lung cancers with centrosome amplification.

Centrosome amplification (CA), an abnormal increase in the number of centrosomes in the cell, is a recurrent phenomenon in lung and other malignancies. Although CA promotes tumor development and progression by inducing genomic instability (GIN), it also induces mitotic stress that jeopardizes cellular integrity. CA leads to the formation of multipolar mitotic spindles that can cause lethal chromosome segregation errors.

Methods:  Medical records of pediatric patients who had undergone surgical repair of hypospadias between 1993 and 2004 at Meyer Children Hospital of Florence were reviewed. Adult patients were contacted by telephone between July and August 2021 and invited to participate.
