Non-operative management versus operative management in high-grade blunt hepatic injury.

Background: Surgery used to be the treatment of choice in cases of blunt hepatic injury, but this approach gradually changed over the last two decades as increasing non-operative management (NOM) of splenic injury led to its use for hepatic injury. The improvement in critical care monitoring and computed tomographic scanning, as well as the more frequent use of interventional radiology techniques, has helped to bring about this change to non-operative management. Liver trauma ranges from a small capsular tear, without parenchymal laceration, to massive parenchymal injury with major hepatic vein/retrohepatic vena cava lesions.

A rare case of perforated descending colon cancer complicated with a fistula and abscess of left iliopsoas and ipsilateral obturator muscle.

Perforation of descending colon cancer combined with iliopsoas abscess and fistula formation is a rare condition and has been reported few times. A 67-year-old man came to our first aid for an acute pain in the left iliac fossa, in the flank, and in the ipsilateral thigh. Ultrasonography and computed tomography revealed a left abdominal wall, retroperitoneal, and iliopsoas abscess that also involved the ipsilateral obturator muscle.

Laparoscopic single-stapling gastric transection for exophytic pedunculated gastrointestinal stromal tumor: is a safe procedure?

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) represent the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. The macroscopic growth of these lesions can be intraluminal, extraluminal, or intramural, but only 6 cases in literature report a description of the pedunculated type. A 69-year-old man was admitted to our department after an echocardiographical control revealing, as an incidental consequence, an epigastric mass.

Synchronous colorectal neoplasias: our experience about laparoscopic-TEM combined treatment.

Synchronous colorectal neoplasias are defined as 2 or more primary tumors identified in the same patient and at the same time. The most voluminous synchronous cancer is called "first primitive" or "index" cancer. The aim of this work is to describe our experience of minimally invasive approach in patients with synchronous colorectal neoplasias.

Leiomyosarcoma of the right ovarian vein.

The case of a 70-year-old patient with a leiomyosarcoma of the right ovarian vein is presented. For this rare entity, complete surgical excision is believed to offer the best chance of cure.
