Long-term follow-up of Bologna-Oxford (BOX) total ankle arthroplasty.

Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the long-term results with a minimum of ten years follow-up of primary Bologna-Oxford (BOX) TAA.

Methods: Between December 2004 and December 2009, 80 patients (82 ankles) underwent a primary BOX TAA performed by a single senior surgeon, expert in foot and ankle surgery. Pain and functional outcomes were analysed using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain, American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) scoring system, Foot Functional Index Disability and Pain (FFI-Disability, FFI-Pain) score for comparative analysis.

In vivo kinematics of fixed-bearing total ankle arthroplasty.

Background: A good recovery of the physiological mobility of the ankle is an indication of patients' satisfaction after total ankle arthroplasty, which does not generally match that of other consolidated procedures such as hip and knee replacement. The aim of this study was to investigate the kinematics of the Zimmer Total Metal Total Ankle (ZTMTA) during the different exercises.

Methods: Fifteen patients with ZTMTA were enrolled in this study.

Thoraco-lumbar selective fusion in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with Lenke C modifier curves: clinical and radiographic analysis at 10-year follow-up.

Purpose: To examine the radiological and clinical outcomes of a single-center case series of selective thoracic fusions (STF) in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with Lenke C modifier curves, with a long-term follow-up.

Methods: We evaluated at 6 months and 10 years different radiological parameters on both thoracic and lumbar districts: coronal curves, sagittal curves, apical vertebral translation (AVT), and apical vertebral rotation (AVR). The clinical outcome was determined using the SRS 22 score.

Total hip arthroplasty instability treatment without dual mobility cups: brief overview and experience of other options.

Dual mobility cups are getting increasing interest for the prevention, but also in the treatment of THA instability. Nevertheless when a dislocation occurs the main issue remains the knowledge and the correction of the causes of dislocation, including reorientation of the components and soft tissues treatment. There are several options of alternative implants to DMCs including upsizing of the head, and constrained liners.
