Background: Friedreich's ataxia is an inherited, rare, progressive disorder of children and young adults. It is characterized by ataxia, loss of gait, scoliosis, cardiomyopathy, dysarthria and dysphagia, with reduced life expectancy. Alterations of respiratory dynamics and parameters are frequently observed.
