Background: Low wall shear stress (WSS) is predictive of aortic aneurysm growth and rupture. Yet, estimating WSS in a clinical setting is impractical, whereas measuring aneurysm geometry is feasible. This study investigates the association between saccular aneurysm geometry of the infrarenal aorta and WSS.

Incidence of amoxycillin-clavulanic acid associated hepatotoxicity in an Australian children's hospital.

Objectives: Amoxycillin/clavulanic acid is the most common antimicrobial cause of drug-induced liver injury in adults. It is a less common cause of severe drug-related hepatotoxicity in children despite its frequent use. We studied the incidence, characteristics and predictive factors for amoxycillin/clavulanic acid hepatoxicity in children.

Cystic fibrosis liver disease in the new era of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulators.

Cystic fibrosis liver disease (CFLD) is characterised by a wide heterogenity of manifestations and severity. It represents a major cause of morbidity in people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF), which will be of increasing relevance as survival increases in the new era of cystic fibrosis care. No medical therapy currently available has evidence to treat or prevent progression of liver disease.

Current status and future directions of liver transplantation for metabolic liver disease in children.

Orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) in the care of children with inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) is well established and represent the second most common indication for pediatric liver transplantation in most centers worldwide, behind biliary atresia. OLT offers cure of disease when a metabolic defect is confined to the liver, but may still be transformative on a patient's quality of life reducing the chance of metabolic crises causing neurological damage in children be with extrahepatic involvement and no "functional cure." Outcomes post-OLT for inborn errors of metabolism are generally excellent.

Academic health sciences libraries' outreach and engagement with North American Indigenous communities: a scoping review.

Objective: We sought to identify trends and themes in how academic health sciences libraries in the United States, Canada, and Mexico have supported engagement and outreach with Native Americans, Alaska Natives, First Nations, and Indigenous peoples, in or from those same countries. We also sought to learn and share effective practices for libraries engaging with these communities.

Methods: We conducted a scoping review utilizing Arksey and O'Malley's framework for scoping reviews and followed principles from JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis.

Effectiveness of a question formulation rubric with second-year medical students: a randomized controlled trial.

Objective: The FAC (Focus, Amplify, Compose) rubric for assessing medical students' question formulation skills normally accompanies our Evidence Based Practice (EBP) training. The combined training and assessment rubric have improved student scores significantly. How much does the rubric itself contribute to improved student scores? This study sought to measure student improvement using the rubric either with or without a linked 25-minute training session.

The Role of Chemotherapy Plus Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Oncogenic-Driven NSCLC: A University of California Lung Cancer Consortium Retrospective Study.

Introduction: There is a paucity of data on immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) plus doublet chemotherapy (C) in patients with advanced lung cancer whose tumor harbors an actionable mutation. We sought to provide insight into the role of this combination in relation to chemotherapy alone in this patient population.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study at the five University of California National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers.

Developing a Faculty Roles Crosswalk for Health Sciences Librarians.

Many Health Sciences Librarians (HSLs) affiliated with academic health centers in the US have faculty status. Faculty status enables HSLs to collaborate with their health sciences faculty colleagues as peers. Translating HSL faculty responsibilities into terms their faculty counterparts can understand represents an ongoing challenge for HSLs.

Medical Residency Milestones: Competencies in Informatics, Library, and Evidence-Based Practice.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) sets standards known as Milestones and monitors the progress of medical residents as they advance toward medical practice in their specialties. Health sciences librarians need to train medical residents in certain competency areas to help reach the Milestone standards. This project analyzed the Milestones related to informatics, library, and evidence-based practice (EBP) skills to identify core and optional library-related curricular elements that can be integrated into different medical specialty residencies.

Review of surgical treatment for chronic scapholunate ligament reconstruction: a long-term study.

Purpose: Scapholunate dissociation (SLD) is a common entity encountered by hand surgeons. While multiple methods for surgical treatment exist, there is little agreement on the best surgical techniques to treat chronic, static SLD. Our study's goal was to assess the long-term (greater than five years), clinical and radiologic outcomes of the currently recommended treatment options for chronic, static SLD.

Physician Assistant Student Training in Question Formulation: A Quasi-Experiment.

Purpose: To measure improvement in evidence-based practice (EBP) question formulation skills in physician assistant (PA) students using a new approach that included a rubric.

Methods: Quasi-experiment study design featuring pre- and posttests in which the participants are their own controls using a paired t-test to measure skills improvement.

Results: Physician assistant students increased their skills in formulating EBP questions by a statistically significant margin.

Pediatric Eosinophilic Esophagitis is Associated With Low Baseline Impedance.

Background And Aims: Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic inflammatory disorder that requires repeat endoscopic evaluation(s) to assess response to treatment. This results in high health care costs and a procedural burden in affected children. Noninvasive alternate modalities to reassess disease activity have not been established.

Incidence and Outcomes Associated with 6,841 Isolated Distal Deep Vein Thromboses in Patients with 13 Common Cancers.

Introduction:  The epidemiology of isolated distal deep venous thrombosis (iDDVT) among cancer patients is not well described, particularly the incidence of recurrent venous thromboembolism (rVTE) and effect on mortality by cancer type.

Methods:  The cumulative incidence (CI) of iDDVT was determined for patients with 13 common cancers between 2005 and 2017 using the California Cancer Registry linked to the California Patient Discharge and Emergency Department Utilization datasets. The CI of rVTE was calculated and association of incident cancer-associated thrombosis (CT) location with rVTE was determined using Cox proportional hazards regression models.

The hepatitis C virus (HCV) care cascade has been well characterized in the general United States population and other subpopulations since curative medications have been available. However, information is limited on care cascade outcomes in persons experiencing homelessness. The main objective of this study was to map the available evidence on HCV care cascade outcomes in people experiencing homelessness in the U.

New Pathogenic Mutations Associated with Diacylglycerol O-Acyltransferase 1 Deficiency.

Diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 1 deficiency is a recently discovered, rare congenital diarrheal disorder. We report 2 patients with newly described pathogenic mutations in diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 1 with compound heterozygous inheritance and unusual phenotypes. This included a macrophage activation syndrome-like response seen in one patient, ameliorated with low dietary fat.

A simplified computational model of possible hydrodynamic interactions between respiratory and swimming-related water flows in labriform-swimming fishes.

Hydrodynamic interactions in bony fishes between respiratory fluid flows leaving the opercular openings and simultaneous flows generated by movements of downstream pectoral fins are both poorly understood and likely to be complex. Labriform-swimming fishes that swim primarily by moving only their pectoral fins are good subjects for these studies. We performed a computational fluid dynamics investigation of a simplified 2D model of these interactions based on previously published experimental observations of both respiratory and pectoral fin movements under both resting and slow, steady swimming conditions in two similar labriform swimmers: the bluegill sunfish () and the largemouth bass ().

Question formulation skills training using a novel rubric with first-year medical students.

Objective: The authors used an assessment rubric to measure medical students' improvement in question formulation skills following a brief evidence-based practice (EBP) training session conducted by a health sciences librarian.

Method: In a quasi-experimental designed study, students were assessed using a rubric on their pre-instructional skills in formulating answerable EBP questions, based on a clinical scenario. Following their training, they were assessed using the same scenario and rubric.
